@IcedBurni Sometimes I really hate men, like omfg relax it’s just a butt everyone has one you freak
English

@PalmyrPar If GameFreak doesn’t want to do a translation for whatever reason, ill-conceived and weird as it may be, they have the right to do that because it’s their creation to do with as they please
The author of a work does not have some special debt to pay just because their work got p

@mysteryswords @Everlaft @PalmyrPar Instead of allowing others to add their own interpretations to his work, he is obsessed with having some ultra control.
Good, this only makes me respect him more.
English

@Everlaft @PalmyrPar Instead of allowing others to add their own interpretations to his work, he is obsessed with having some ultra control over every word to the point where there has been no effort to make any translation for any other language than the one he prefers. non english speakers get 0.
English

@Iconic_Crab @tittyvillus @Mobliterated @Cuneyt_S_Sevi Yes and that's good, he can't read any of those translations, he can read the Japanese one and every couple minutes he sees something he isn't happy with he can address it.
English

@tittyvillus @Mobliterated @Cuneyt_S_Sevi Why wouldn't he make it an official translation then? It's happened before, Toby just wants more "creative control"
English

@marupan_desu I agree, and he is right too. Don't let fans affect your work.
English

@ForgottenCos24 @lebsiankitten Your mom must have cried when you were born then

@MrJorge78 @punkerlabrat @eurogamer And yeah, I do learn more languages so I can watch more media, most translations suck.
English

@MrJorge78 @punkerlabrat @eurogamer Toby is correct in his assumption that even he got the greatest translation team i. there would be things in the translation that he would disagree with if he knew the language every few lines.
So unless he learns the language he shouldnt allow any official translations.
English

"If I release something official, I want it to match my vision" - Undertale and Deltarune creator Toby Fox explains why no translations other than Japanese have happened eurogamer.net/undertale-and-…

English

@DanoDino86 @FunkyFister @camiloos12 @DRN_003 Totally untrue I've seen hundred of pieces of media and also checked out the translation, it rarely takes more than a few seconds for the translation to feel off compared to the original.
People just have low standards.
English

@FunkyFister @camiloos12 @DRN_003 Then he shoudl be very aware that nearly all translations are great and don't have any issues, it's only a handful of things that get miss translated.
Daddy Sakurai would spank him if he knew he was gatekeeping whole countries from enjoying his games

There's a whole 271 page long book about how Undertale was translated into japanese and how meticulous that process was and what sacrifices were made in said process
And you really expect that perfectionist guy to want to translate the game into the language he doesn't know

English

@camiloos12 @DRN_003 Better to who? not to Toby, if you know the language you want go a few lines without seeing something you want changed. unless he can read the final result of the translation he can't make it good enough for him to be satisfied.
English

@DRN_003 I admire how meticulous he is in his work and how dedicated he wants to be, but at the same time, he could choose to step back a bit and trust translation and localization professionals—after all, that’s what they studied for, and they likely know more about it than he does. ???
English

@rintubein Having the need to write a book about how you took years to do what a professional would have done in weeks, and much better, is not such a good flex,
English

oh my god this is the exact point, he doesn’t care because he idolizes japan only. if his perfectionist ass gave a damn he would’ve written a 271 page long guideline on how to translate his game, like so many series do, because that’s how official translation WORKS

English

@OsoBearoso @rintubein People don't understand that if you know the language you won't go two lines without seeing something that goes against what Toby wants. Which is why for the level of control he wants, even with the greatest pro translators he needs to learn the language to check it himself.
English

@rintubein Any serious localisation project has a style guide, written by the author or by project manager(s) (with input from the author). Translation projects also undergo a review stage, and then a QA stage, sometimes more than 1 each. Localisation is a professional job.

English

@rintubein Preach, brother. It's so fucking annoying how people are eating his excuse up, as if Undertale and shit is some amazing accomplishment of narrative and storytelling that could never be told in other languages. Even in other, more complex flexible languages like Portuguese.
English

English

@rintubein People in the comments acting like a translation mistake is a death crime and isnt possible to just release a fix for some errors
English

@rintubein @Jooneefin Why would he do that. He is correct in his assumption that even if he did this there would be things in the translation that he would disagree with if he knew the language.
And so unless he learns the language he shouldnt allow any official translations.
English

@Jooneefin I don’t want him to learn anything I want him to trust professionals from other languages to do a good job
English

@grisfinch @T3ssaGrant @rintubein Yeah and that sucks? just because others are okay with that doesn't mean toby needs to be. He doesnt need or want to trust anyone else people say that's a problem but it's only a problem for them.
English

@T3ssaGrant @rintubein "he isnt going to sign off on something he doesnt understand" THATS WHAT EVERY SINGLE GAME, BOOK, MOVIE, WHATEVER, DOES TO GET TRANSLATED OMFG
English

@Maninthesmoke @baracodes @D_Festus34 @Zenrotwo It's not about the backstory its about what it does, Does the ability make your attacks stronger/boost your skill? it's supersaiyan.
English

Kurama Chakra Cloak? That's a Super Saiyan.
Domain Expansion? That's a Bankai.
One For All Full Cowl? You might think that's a Bankai but actually its a Super Saiyan
Gold Experience Requiem? You might think that's a Super Saiyan but actually its a Bankai

Every Shonen power up is either a Super Saiyan or a Bankai and you simply have to determine which one your series has
