And noted, subsequently, between '21 and '23 (of course Trump spoke out publicly on present-day issues in 2024 - he was running for office) that if Trump was acting contrary to tradition, it was because Barack Obama had already broken that tradition. The older tradition after all was that former Presidents never set foot into public life again after leaving office. Never even publicly voiced their opinions on present-day issues. To avoid the "back seat driver" problem. Jimmy Carter attempted to engage in citizen-diplomacy a few times, in retirement - but in an unobtrusive way that didn't interfere with or involve criticize the admistrations of the time. Other than that it was an unbroken tradition since before I was born - that was even considered sacrosanct. Barack Obama is the first former president to have broken that tradition - and he has done so over and over and over.

Even if the US elects a Dem in 2028, unless there is accountability and major structural change, we cant rely on the US.
