@runliftrunlift I am a very untalented runner. Was able to run with more talented runners just by running more volume. Over 3,000 miles a year in my late 50's. Times were still pedestrian, but good enough to run Boston multiple times. Could never have done that without the volume.

The fitness jump from 20 to 30 miles per week (32 to 48 km) up to a consistent 40 miles (64 km) is massive. When runners ask about workouts and getting faster, I usually ask back, “Have you ever put together 3 to 4 months of consistent 40 mile weeks?” If the answer is no, that’s your answer to getting faster. Not new workouts or more workouts. More consistent volume. It takes time. If your true easy pace is around 9:30 to 10:00 per mile (5:55 to 6:12 per km), you’re looking at roughly 6 to 7 hours of running per week. That’s the buy-in. It’s a commitment, no doubt. But for a lot of runners, the move to 40+ mile weeks, held consistently for several months, is exactly what takes them to the next level.

@HankFrank Ist time I ran Boston I was in the best shape ever but injured my knee in last mile 3 weeks out. Pain till race day. Didn't run a step for 3 weeks and ran in a heavy brace. Next Boston I strained my hammy at the 1t hill -- start of mile 5. Finished both but there is a Jinx.

Had my last big workout before Boston on the schedule this morning. 8 x mile @ half marathon pace with 90 second rest. 4 x 200m @ 5K pace with 70 second rest. Didn’t do it. Right hammy has been aggravated since Sunday’s 22 miler so I made the call to scrap it and run easy instead. Smart decision. Protect the body. 19 days out. Don’t be stupid. All the right thoughts. Then about halfway through the easy run my left shin started screaming at me. Came out of nowhere. Wasn’t there yesterday. Wasn’t there Sunday. Just showed up today and decided to make itself known. Finished the run. Shin feels even worse now than it did during. I’ve dealt with shin flare ups before and this feels like that. Taking a few days off running and riding the bike until it calms down. You do everything right for 3 months and then 19 days out your body starts inventing new problems. This is not the time to be a hero.

@a_felbinger @Karl_Townes I wouldn't say he was mid in college. Wasn't he drafted like #3 or #4 overall? I remember debates between Deron and CP2.

Yet another study: Exercise intensity is more important than exercise volume for longevity and for prevention of dementia, heart disease, diabetes, etc. This is so rooted in data now. Intensity is what drives almost all the benefits of exercise.

@Ser_Dweeb Could potentially win this year and for years to come. I really like Kelsey, but if you give her a multi-year supermax the future for the Fever is very much unstable.

@SethLeon11 Could potentially win when you could be title favorites if you keep the core? The goal is to give yourself the best chance to win a championship I thought.

Role players don’t win championships in the W, stars do. Mercury were a deep team and got swept. Atlanta was a deep team and lost to our shorthanded team because Kelsey and AB were too good. You can’t have the best big 3 in the W and have all the amazing role players.
☯ 𝐴𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛'𝑠 𝑏𝑎𝑐𝑘 ༒@mofaya_

@Ser_Dweeb Kelsey might not be going anywhere but role players better not suffer. The FO gotta figure it out. If role players suffer, we will not win the chip. I don't care how much the big 3 carries.

@TooManyCatS1210 @Ser_Dweeb Phee got hurt last year, and they were one bad call from winning the whole thing the prior year. You need at least one great player but chemisrty/team play is at least as important.

Ring culture is a thing in women’s college basketball and always has been mainly for 1 reason . You’re there for 4 years ! The greatest to do it should be able to get it done . That applies to multiple ppl not just one ! Yes I know the list that didn’t win a ring in college but turned out to be greats in the W … but most of those aren’t considered the greatest to ever play college ball BC they didn’t win a ring .

@RichLatta32 @DBGyt_ Problem is that if Caitlyn wins MVP she will be supermax eligible next year. Would Kelsey take a 1 yr?

The Kelsey Mitchell situation is such an interesting one for Indy! If she gets a supermax, they become contenders in 2026. But that might be their only chip window However if they trade her they will likely get assets to build a roster that will be favourites in 2/3 years

@DBGyt_ I would core, see if she takes a 1 year super, maybe two year reg max? I wouldn't go over that. If she would rather take a different offer then there may be some good FA replacement options this year -- more than a typical year.

@LySocial Anyone who thinks she had a bad game is dense. But there are legitimate concerns about her gm transferring to the W. I'm not an Iowa fan, she seems a sweet person. But like the NBA of 80s-90s, undersized bigs often don't translate esp non-shooters. Her passing might get her in?

I see a lot of people coming down on Hannah’s performance today. She shot 58% from the field and had 19 rebounds. The only major flaw was going 1/6 from the line. She gave it her all.

@theprophecc She can make one hand cross court passes on the move with either hand better than any W player I have seen. Can also finish with both hands. If I have a pg I'll take Fudd. If I have a SG already I'll take Miles. Will take fewer 3's in the W. Without question should go top 3.

@robinlundberg 'Big issues remain' -- 6 days past a deadline after many days of marathon sessions is not pointing in the right direction. They are 'hopeful' of an agreement in 15-20 hrs? Truth is that we no better idea now how close they are than we did weeks ago. Might be close -- might not

@DavidDack ? Putting aside that any blanket goal will be a poor goal for 9 out of 10 readers, some of these are far easier than others. A 30 min 5k runner has zero chance of running a 4hr marathon.

If you’re thinking about goals for 2026, I’m going to suggest something simple. Sub 30 5K. Sub 60 10K. Sub 2 hour half. Sub 4 hour marathon. Not because the internet will clap. Not because it sounds impressive at dinner. But because those benchmarks usually mean you’ve built a solid engine. Consistent training. Decent strength. Good habits. The kind that carry into the rest of your life. When I chase times like that, I’m not chasing ego. I’m chasing capacity. Heart health. Durability. The ability to keep showing up year after year without falling apart. It’s not about being elite. It’s about being strong enough to age well. Which one of those feels within reach for you right now? #running

@drjasonfung He might be referring to the novice marathon runner who over-hydrates prior to a race, then stops for water every mile. People have died this way -- hyponatremia. The simple solution is to just drink to thirst, thats all we need.

WTF? If you drink a lot of water, you will pee it out. That's what your kidneys do (speaking as a kidney specialist). I drink plain water (yes, without salt) almost every day of my life, as did virtually all humans for the last, say, million years. No, I am not worried about 'dehydrating' myself by drinking water. 🙄

@cool_daron @mofaya_ Not only that, his team repeatedly fouled intentionally to give him more opportunities. He took 21 3's (only made 7). An average game by Shai, Jokic, or Wemby is more impressive than this.
