🚨NEW: As a former NYPD officer and 25+ year retired member of law enforcement, I've seen these situations play out too many times. This Boerum Hill liquor store video is a textbook example of what happens when someone brings the courtroom to the streets. The plainclothes narcotics detectives had reasonable suspicion - they observed what they believed was a drug sale and approached a man matching the exact description. That's enough for a lawful investigative detention and handcuffing while they sort it out. It turned out to be mistaken identity (no drugs, wrong guy), but the street isn't the place to litigate that. Physically resisting turned a quick ID check into chaos, broken bottles, and injuries. Comply first. Contest later. Let the system hash it out at the scene if possible, at the precinct or in court - it's safer for everyone and gives you the strongest position if there's a mistake. Unless he just opened fire or assaulted someone, this is unacceptable. They didnt even give him a chance to calm down. Any man with good survival instincts is going to push back for a second when being slammed into a wall by 2 other men, before letting his adrenaline die down they just started pummeling him. Totally unacceptable. We don't even know what he was suspected of. The 4th amendment protects against illegal search and seizure let alone being violently punched and kicked. Animals and anyone who agrees with them is a boot licking coward who should move to China or North Korea.

The violence used by NYPD officers in this video is extremely disturbing and unacceptable. Officers should never treat a person this way. The NYPD is conducting a full investigation into this incident.
