For architects, I developed a @playcanvas construction monitoring interface integrating Gaussian Splatting, project plans, and AI-generated videos. The goal is to provide better immersion, clearer project visualization, and a stronger understanding of the future space.

@jasonc_nc Why aren’t we just building fire trucks into buildings? Or better yet, let’s have distributed decentralized firefighters that are quartered into homes on every street. They could even be volunteer firefighters, wait.

How do I capture this populist zeitgeist for banning private equity from building rental homes & redirect it to banning private equity from building oversized, expensive fire trucks so they finally deliver the right-sized, affordable trucks Americans actually need?

On ladder trucks: A Pierce (US) 100’ ladder is ~46’9” in length. A Rosenbauer (EU) 105’ turntable ladder is 33’9”. -13’ (28%) shorter -5’ MORE reach -articulates AROUND obstacles vs straight ladder -Cheaper -More nimble -Faster setup -Superior extraction for disabled or injured

@jasonc_nc Part of the problem is that CA taxes their residents every which way (sales, income, property) and abuses those taxes + takes no fiduciary duty in spending wisely.

There is an argument going on in America right now. A man set a warehouse on fire in Ontario, California because, he said, his employer would not pay him enough to live. He made $18 an hour. A one-bedroom apartment in Ontario costs $2,265 a month. Gas is $5.34 a gallon. At $18 an hour, full-time, before taxes, you have roughly $615 left after rent. One side calls him a criminal. The other side calls that math a confession. That is the argument.

@SinaiLawFirm I’ve never seen a pro-housing bill that made building the left example harder. They’re already legal effectively everywhere.

People move out from CA to places like Austin and Nashville so they can afford the image on the left while our politicians (and pro-housing people) are busy figuring out how to build more of the right

@ShadowConserva1 @damonhemmerding Long thread about lack of municipal ready cab over commercial chassis being an obstacle to city goals around smaller service vehicles imminent

@damonhemmerding What’s funny is absolutely no one who complains about them understands the functional purpose of why they look the way they do. More service and municipal vehicles that were purpose built for safety and function would be good, actually.

@jasonc_nc You can have common sense fire truck reform when you peel it out of their emotional vice grip of first responders.

@jasonc_nc But Jason they fight fires, we should bankrupt every small city in America to meet their demands…I mean equipment needs.

And so we buy tractor drawn ladders and pretend they’re for “tighter, urban spaces”. Meanwhile companies that deliver to urban businesses don’t bring a tractor trailer. They use shorter trucks. In fact many urban areas don’t permit tractor trailers except on corridors, because common sense says they’re a bad format. Yet fire departments are increasingly trying to tell the public that these are the “strategic” solution, rather than smaller ladder trucks with equal reach. Take a look at the size of the truck compared to the houses it’s driving by. Ironically its comical length and width means it takes the entire street and it still can’t actually turn without hanging over the curb. But again, you need a second driver to run it and that’s really cool.

“Then they come back to Pierce like an abusive spouse” Yesterday I noted Charlottesville VA’s move to “metro” sized engines to meet street improvement & safety goals. Charlotte NC has chosen the opposite - purchasing even larger “specialized” apparatus like a new 59’ tiller truck which has been awaiting repair more than it has been in service. “It’s a nice truck,” said Lou Lesesne, a former lawyer for the firefighters union. “Other than the fact it doesn’t work.” This is a recurring, increasing issue with the oversized, all-custom preferences of American fire departments. Poor reliability, expensive repairs, and a lack of parts that sidelines emergency vehicles for months at a time. In return for the excess size and expense the city also gets to add 3-4 fire fighters (plus future pensions) for the 2nd driver position. But it has let the fire department post some really cool hype videos on Facebook.

@jasonc_nc All the surrounding municipalities trial other manufactures then come back to pierce like an abusive spouse. Nobody is immune anymore in the states. Wait until you hear about the American fire helmet vs euro helmet debate…

@jasonc_nc It’s kind of like the F35 of fire trucks. Custom and specialized to do everything all at once yet can’t do anything at all because something is always failing

This is a very good question. Has anyone done research on the life safety benefits of being able to spin a patient in a circle during transport? Are the left side elevators impacting safety? What about the nonexistent ones we end up with instead?

@Adventuring_RE 32 million cubic feet of stored product and a 1.2 million square foot industrial building in one of the highest cost per square foot locations in the nation for industrial buildings. The numbers are both pretty accurate.
