@GameRant See there this thing called a blu ray optical drive and if you are not a complete dumbass you can easily figure out how to get the drive to read a ps3 game rip the iso and burn it on an m disc. Im good for my life time... my kids, their kids, etc. M disc have a 1000 life span

@ZooL_Smith for some consoles they deliberately write the discs in a way where the only way to read it is with a drive with firmware level support. ps3 discs and wii discs do this and to this day you basically have to dump them on real hardware 90% of the time

Technically not backwards compatible if I can't put my original game's DVD in my PC to do that. Don't twist the words, it's not "Backward Compatibility"

@GodsLibtard @ZooL_Smith You can.... with a little research and upgrading your drive to the right one and a firmware flash you can read pretty anything but dreamcast and gamecube

@ZooL_Smith tbh I'm wondering if that's feasible, cause I'm not sure if you can read Xbox DVDs on all drives or if they're slightly weird like the Wii ones

@XBOX Hmmmm add support to put the physical disc in an optical drive and play the game you already own from the OG disc. SteamOS support would be great to.

@Frenchlet1 @whattheflizzy2 Ummm yeah you do... you have the files... you could literally make a physical copy of said game, make a backup of the files etc.

@whattheflizzy2 that's not my point, my point is you don't own your game, it doesn't really happen but theoritically steam can stop you from accessing a game legally speaking obv steam is better than sony, but you do not own your games

i both agree that this is upsetting but i still need to make the reminder that the biggest video game library in the world, steam, entirely runs on this model

@xMBGx Never played a Halo game.... never owned an Xbox. From someone from the outside looking in it looks like space cod and if xbox ever gets their spine back and keeps their IPs exclusive... I dislike xbox more than sony...

An unmodified game is a game that is NOT altered in any way, be it through game mods or game patches. Having to use game patches to work around emulator bugs or to boost insufficient performance blocks a game from being Playable by our preservation/accuracy-first standards.

How do we define a PS3 Game as Playable on PC? A game needs to run unmodified with at least the same performance and the same resolution as a real PS3 on the recommended requirements baseline, with no game breaking glitches. rpcs3.net/requirements

@younghavok 1. The carts are Nintendo proprietary hardware. 3rd party companies have to buy the carts from Nintendo to make physical games. Even if a game flops Nintendo makes money 2. Out of the box the switch wasn't built for "all digital " very limit onboard storage.

Why does Nintendo sell so much more physical content than PlayStation? Does anyone have any ideas why this is?

Something else I don't get. If you're mad at Sony for dropping physical why the f*ck are you switching to PC? I'm multiplat myself and fine with my PC games, but why is it OK to get digital only games on PC but not PS? And yes, I'd prefer Sony keep physical discs an option.

@HarmanSmith64 Sure they are... steam deck, steam machine, steam controller, steam OS... all can be used in place of a Playstation, Nintendo, or Playstation hardware.

As much as I love physical media and believe it should be around as long as there’s demand, The numbers don’t lie. I know folks are thinking these companies are heavily skewing the data… to a degree? Sure but OVERALL? Cmon y’all.
