The violence in Metekel were not a mere series of "clashes" but a rhythmic cycles of cleansing that followed a specific political calendar. June 23, 2019 (The Trigger): Immediately following the "Amhara Coup" narrative in Bahir Dar, armed men killed 37 Amharas in Metekel. This established a precedent: whenever the federal government faced political tension, the "Bounty" was collected from Amhara civilians in the lowlands. September 2020 (The Bulen Prelude): Weeks of attacks in Bulen Wereda resulted in at least 150 deaths. Local administrators disputed the numbers, but the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) confirmed the targets were ethnic Amharas and Agews. November 14, 2020 (The Bus Massacre): During the second week of the Tigray War, a passenger bus traveling between Wenbera and Chagni was attacked, killing 34 people. This proved that "indigenous" militias were operating freely while the ENDF was diverted to the north. December 22–23, 2020 (The Bikuji Massacre): The Performance: PM Abiy Ahmed visited Metekel on December 22, promising "justice" and "unity." He tweeted photos of himself meeting residents to "urge calm." The Bloodbath: Within 24 hours of his departure, roughly 500 gunmen surrounded Bikuji Kebele. They slaughtered 207 to 222 civilians, burning many alive in their homes. The Latency: Witnesses stated that security forces had been "repeatedly notified" during the 7-hour slaughter but arrived only after the attackers had left.

⚡️TPLF forces impose forced payments and administrative changes on residents in Alamata City (📍North Wollo Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia). 🔴 As of March 26th, reports indicate forced financial collection from civilians to support planned TPLF military operations, carried out through administrative pressure and direct coercion. 🔴 Bajaj drivers are being compelled to change registration from Amhara Region to Tigray Region plates, with the process reportedly used to extract excessive fees beyond standard requirements. 🔴 Sources state these payments are being diverted toward military and administrative activities, placing additional economic strain on residents. 🔴 Reports also indicate attempts by armed groups to sell or redistribute land belonging to local residents, raising serious concerns over property rights and forced administrative restructuring. 🔴 Similar practices have reportedly been observed in Korem City, suggesting a broader pattern across affected areas. #Amhara_War_Updates

I would like to thank the Australian Council for Human Rights Education (ACHRE) and Curtin Centre for Human Rights Education (CHRE) for organizing a very informative webinar on the state of human rights violation against Amharas in Ethiopia on the day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. "Right to the Truth" is a extremely key for Amhara advocates as the systemic targeting of Amharas in Ethiopia is marred with secrecy, sabotage, coordinated silencing and blaming the victims themselves. This is a landmark discussion as it paves the way for academicians to really take time and look into the data and evidence available.
