Restore Train No. 16511/12 Kannur–Bengaluru Express to KSR Bengaluru – A Genuine Public Demand The shift of Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru–Kannur Express from the centrally located KSR Bengaluru (Majestic) to Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT Bengaluru) has caused widespread inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters, employees, students and general passengers. While the stated objective may have been decongestion of the main terminal, the ground reality is that this decision has severely disrupted passenger convenience, connectivity and affordability. Earlier, when the train terminated at KSR Bengaluru, it arrived around 6:35–6:50 AM and halted at Yesvantpur Junction around AM. Both these stations are centrally located and offer excellent metro and BMTC connectivity. Passengers could seamlessly shift to metro lines, buses or other city transport and reach workplaces, colleges and appointments on time. After shifting the terminal to SMVT Bengaluru, the train now arrives around AM at a location that lacks proper integration with Bengaluru’s transport network. Though Baiyappanahalli Metro station is nearby, there is no direct foot-over-bridge connection. Passengers must depend on autos or cabs to reach the metro, often with luggage. The approach roads via Banaswadi and Old Madras Road are narrow and heavily congested, especially during peak hours. This has increased both travel time and travel cost. For passengers from West, South and Central Bengaluru, reaching SMVT Bengaluru is significantly more expensive compared to reaching KSR Bengaluru. Earlier, a simple metro ride to Majestic was enough. Now, passengers spend ₹300–₹600 for autos or cabs, sometimes equal to or more than the train fare itself. Late-night arrivals further worsen the situation due to limited public transport options. Because of this inconvenience, many passengers are now travelling all the way to Yesvantpur Junction to board the train instead of SMVT Bengaluru. However, due to unpredictable city traffic, signal congestion and peak-hour delays, passengers sometimes miss the train despite leaving early. This has created unnecessary stress and uncertainty for regular commuters. Passengers who strictly prefer boarding only from KSR Bengaluru are now depending on Train No. 16585/86 SMVT Bengaluru–Murudeshwar Express, which runs via KSR Bengaluru. This clearly shows that passenger preference for KSR Bengaluru remains strong and that the shift of Kannur Express to SMVT has not been practically convenient for the majority. It is also important to highlight the operational background. Previously, the rake of Kannur Express was maintained at Yesvantpur Junction and not at KSR Bengaluru. During ongoing works at KSR Bengaluru, maintenance arrangements were modified. Train No. 16593/94 KSR Bengaluru–Nanded Express, whose rake was maintained at KSR Bengaluru, was shifted to Yesvantpur Junction. To accommodate this, Kannur Express was shifted to SMVT Bengaluru. In this entire operational rearrangement, passenger convenience was compromised. South Western Railway has stated that this change is temporary – up to March 11 for Train No. 16511 and March 10 for Train No. 16512. We sincerely hope that after these dates, the train will be restored to KSR Bengaluru as earlier assured. However, given previous extensions of temporary arrangements, passengers are concerned that these changes may again be prolonged. Passengers from Coastal Karnataka depend heavily on this train for employment, education, medical travel and official work in Bengaluru. The earlier early-morning arrival at centrally connected stations ensured affordable and reliable commuting. The current arrangement increases costs, causes delays and disturbs daily routines. Decongestion measures are understandable, but they must not come at the cost of public convenience. Restoring Train No. 16511/16512 to KSR Bengaluru will reinstate seamless connectivity, reduce passenger expenditure and uphold the reliability expected from Indian Railways. We therefore strongly urge South Western Railway to honor its assurance and restore the terminal of Train No. 16511/16512 Kannur–Bengaluru Express to KSR Bengaluru immediately after the notified temporary period, in the larger public interest. @SWRRLY @GMSWR @drmsbc @RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP @CaptBrijesh
