Unlocking the Full Potential of Subrahmanya Road Railway Station Subrahmanya Road railway station is one of the most strategically important stations in Dakshina Kannada district, serving as the primary railhead for thousands of passengers and pilgrims travelling to interior regions of Karnataka. Located on the vital Mangaluru–Hassan–Mysuru railway line, this station plays a crucial role in connecting coastal Karnataka with the hinterland. It serves as the nearest railway access point to the renowned Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, one of the most important pilgrimage centres in South India, attracting lakhs of devotees every year. Despite its importance, the full operational potential of this station remains underutilized. Subrahmanya Road station is equipped with 3 platforms and lies on a section supported by multiple running tracks, providing sufficient infrastructure for handling train operations. In addition, the station has a running room facility for railway crew, making it suitable for extended operational use. Further strengthening its importance, the station is currently being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, a major nationwide initiative aimed at transforming railway stations into modern passenger-friendly hubs with improved amenities, infrastructure and connectivity. Once completed, this redevelopment will significantly enhance passenger experience, tourism support facilities, and overall station capacity. Subrahmanya Road is not just a railway station,it is a gateway to major tourism and pilgrimage circuits. Apart from Kukke Subrahmanya, the station provides convenient access to destinations such as Dharmasthala and surrounding regions, which are culturally and economically significant. However, one major operational limitation continues to restrict its growth. At present, trains are allowed to be held at Subrahmanya Road only for a very limited duration, typically around 30 minutes to 1 hour. This constraint significantly reduces the flexibility required for efficient train operations, especially for services that could otherwise be extended or optimized using this station. Given the existing infrastructure and ongoing redevelopment, there is a strong case for allowing longer stabling durations of minimum 2–3 hours at Subrahmanya Road. Such a move would enable better utilization of available platforms and tracks, improve scheduling flexibility and support smoother train operations on this important corridor. Additionally, full utilization of all available platforms for passenger train handling would further enhance the station’s operational capacity and efficiency. Across Indian Railways, several stations with similar infrastructure having 3 platforms and multiple tracks successfully handle extended operations and stabling of trains. With the ongoing modernization under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Subrahmanya Road is well-positioned to function at a much higher operational level. A progressive and forward-looking approach by South Western Railway in this regard would not only improve passenger convenience but also strengthen regional connectivity, boost tourism and pilgrimage travel, and maximize the benefits of ongoing infrastructure investments. It is the right time to recognize and unlock the true potential of Subrahmanya Road railway station for the benefit of the travelling public. In this regard, we request @SWRRLY and @DrmMys sir to kindly consider permitting longer stabling durations of 2–3 hours at Subrahmanya Road station and allow full utilization of all platforms for passenger train operations, in the larger interest of the travelling public. @RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP @CaptBrijesh

@SWRRLY Kabaka Puttur, a prominent railway station serving DK’s 2nd largest city, deserves better infrastructure. Digital displays should be fixed at the earliest. Also, we request to expand PF—Shelters ASAP as it causes very much trouble during rainy days.

@DrmMys @RailwaySeva @DrmMys Sir, parking sheds are already provided at many railway stations across Indian Railways. Then how can it be stated that such provision is not envisaged under Railway Board guidelines? Kabaka Puttur is an important station.Kindly reconsider and provide basic shelter.

Is this how @SWRRLY values and respects the request of an Hon’ble MP? Even after approval for essential infrastructure works, no visible progress has been made at Kabaka Puttur Railway Station. Kabaka Puttur is not a minor halt; it serves Puttur, the second-largest city in the district, along with surrounding regions of Dakshina Kannada. It acts as an important railway access point connecting coastal Karnataka to interior regions like Hassan, Mysuru, Bengaluru and other parts of the state. The station handles significant passenger movement daily, including students, workers and pilgrims travelling towards Subrahmanya and rural areas of Dakshina Kannada district. However, the ground reality remains disappointing. Even a short spell of summer rain has exposed the lack of adequate platform shelter, leaving passengers struggling to find proper cover across coach positions. If this is the situation during minor summer showers, the condition during the monsoon season can be easily imagined. In addition, the parking area lacks even basic shed facilities, causing inconvenience to passengers and vehicle owners during both rain and harsh sunlight. When a request raised at the highest level receives approval but still sees no execution on the ground, it raises serious concerns about accountability and priority. Passengers are not asking for luxury; they need basic infrastructure and dignity in travel. We urge @SWRRLY and @DrmMys to immediately take up the approved works, expedite implementation, and ensure that Kabaka Puttur station receives the attention it rightfully deserves. @RailMinIndia @RailwaySeva @CaptBrijesh @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP

Public Request to Maintain Present Timing of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express We, the passengers and residents of Dakshina Kannada and surrounding regions, would like to place on record our sincere request regarding the proposed revision in the timing of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru–Kozhikode Express, particularly the handover at Padil from the present 06:50 hrs to 07:10 hrs. This train has been serving as a lifeline for Dakshina Kannada, providing crucial overnight connectivity between coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru. A large number of passengers, including working professionals, students, and daily commuters, depend on its present schedule, which is well-aligned with passenger needs and has been functioning efficiently. It may kindly be noted that earlier, when the train was operating with a later arrival schedule (around 07:55 hrs at Mangaluru Central with Padil at 07:10 hrs), it caused considerable inconvenience to passengers. Based on public feedback, the timing was revised to the present schedule (Padil 06:50 hrs and Mangaluru Central 07:10 hrs), which has since been highly beneficial to the travelling public. We are concerned that the proposed delay in handover at Padil may lead to operational constraints in the Mangaluru Junction–Mangaluru Central section, particularly due to the movement of Train No. 12619 LTT–Mangaluru Matsyagandha Express, which runs behind and passes Mangaluru Junction around 07:15 hrs. This could result in detention of Train No. 16511 at Mangaluru Junction, eventually delaying its arrival at Mangaluru Central to around 08:00 hrs, thereby affecting a large number of passengers who rely on its current early arrival. We humbly submit that the recent punctuality concerns of this train may be due to operational factors such as changes in crossing arrangements of other services, and such issues may kindly be addressed through appropriate scheduling adjustments, rather than altering the timing of a well-functioning and passenger-friendly train. In view of the above, we earnestly request the concerned authorities to kindly maintain the present timing of Train No. 16511, especially the handover at Padil at 06:50 hrs, in the larger interest of the travelling public. We sincerely hope our request will receive due consideration. @SWRRLY @drmsbc @DrmMys @GMSRailway @DRMPalghat @CaptBrijesh @RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP

Another setback to Dakshina Kannada! How long will this neglect continue? Dakshina Kannada district has been facing continuous setbacks in railway services, and now yet another serious concern has emerged. It is learnt that there is a proposal to delay the handover timing of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express at Padil from the present 6:50 hrs to 7:10 hrs. This move, if implemented, will cause severe inconvenience to the people of the region. Train No. 16511 is not just another service, it is truly the lifeline of Dakshina Kannada, providing a highly convenient overnight connection between coastal Karnataka and Bengaluru. The train is widely patronized by the public, primarily because of its well-suited and passenger-friendly schedule. At present, this train efficiently caters to both long-distance travelers and daily commuters across the Subrahmanya Road–Mangaluru section. The current timing allows passengers to reach their destinations comfortably and continue with their daily activities without disruption. It is important to note that when this train was introduced during the post-COVID period in 2020, it used to arrive at Mangaluru Central at an inconvenient timing of 07:55 hrs (with Padil handover at 07:10 hrs). This timing was strongly opposed by the public due to the inconvenience caused. Responding to public demand, the authorities had earlier advanced the schedule, enabling the train to reach Padil at 06:50 hrs and Mangaluru Central at 07:10 hrs, a change that proved highly beneficial and was widely appreciated. Now, bringing back the delayed handover at 07:10 hrs will effectively push the train back to its old, inconvenient schedule, with arrival at Mangaluru Central around 07:50 hrs or even later. This will create further operational issues. At present, Train No. 12619 LTT Mumbai–Mangaluru Matsyagandha Express runs behind Train No. 16511 in the single-line section between Mangaluru Junction and Mangaluru Central, passing through Mangaluru Junction at around 07:15 hrs. If Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express is handed over late at Padil at 07:10 hrs, it will inevitably be detained at Mangaluru Junction to allow Train No. 12619 LTT Mumbai–Mangaluru Matsyagandha Express to pass and reach Mangaluru Central first at around 07:40 hrs. Consequently, Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express will be forced to depart Mangaluru Junction only after that and will reach Mangaluru Central at around 08:00 hrs. This will completely disrupt its utility and cause major inconvenience to existing users who rely on its current punctual early arrival. It must also be highlighted that the recent punctuality issues of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express are not due to its schedule, but due to operational changes such as the alteration of the crossing station of Train No. 16595/96 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express to Subrahmanya Road from the earlier Shiribagilu. Instead of correcting these underlying issues, delaying Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express is an unjustified and counterproductive step. The appropriate solution would be to regulate the timings of Train No. 16595/96 KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express in such a way that it reaches Subrahmanya Road on or before 01:00 hrs. This would ensure that Train No. 16596 Karwar-KSR Bengaluru Panchaganga Express proceeds towards the Sakleshpur section by around 03:00 hrs without affecting the movement or punctuality of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express or other trains on this route. This proposed change comes as yet another blow to Dakshina Kannada, a region that has already been facing repeated neglect in railway planning, be it lack of new train services, inadequate infrastructure upgrades or continuous operational disadvantages. Instead of improving connectivity and strengthening existing services, such decisions only push the region backward and inconvenience thousands of passengers. In view of all these facts, we strongly urge @RailMinIndia, @SWRRLY,@GMSRailway to reconsider this proposal and maintain the present timing of Train No. 16511 KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express, especially the handover at Padil at 06:50 hrs. Preserving this timing is essential to ensure passenger convenience and to protect a service that truly serves as the backbone of connectivity for Dakshina Kannada. @DrmMys @drmsbc @DRMPalghat @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP @CaptBrijesh

We sincerely thank @CaptBrijesh sir for taking initiative and raising the demand for a dedicated weekend special train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. This is a long-pending requirement and will greatly benefit passengers from Dakshina Kannada and surrounding regions who regularly travel on this route. After facing back-to-back setbacks and continuous extensions of trains which were earlier running only up to Mangaluru Central, this proposal comes as a big hope for the people of our region. A dedicated service between Bengaluru and Mangaluru Central is the need of the hour, considering the heavy demand and inconvenience faced by passengers, especially during weekends. We hope @RailMinIndia, @GMSRailway and @SWRRLY considers this request positively and implements it at the earliest. At the same time, we strongly hope that this train will be maintained strictly as a dedicated Bengaluru–Mangaluru service and will not be extended further in the future, ensuring that the interests and connectivity of Mangaluru region are fully protected. @AshwiniVaishnaw @DRMPalghat @DrmMys @drmsbc

NO MORE EXTENSIONS OF TRAIN NO. 16511/16512 – ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Train No. 16511/16512 KSR Bengaluru – Kozhikode Express was originally introduced as a dedicated train up to Mangaluru Central, serving the people of Dakshina Kannada and nearby regions of Karnataka. Over time, it was extended to Kannur, reducing the exclusive benefit that Mangaluru once had. Now it has been further extended to Kozhikode, and now there are reports of extending it even beyond to Shoranur Jn. This is clearly a step-by-step dilution of Mangaluru’s railway importance and connectivity. With every extension, the seat and berth availability for passengers from Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada region is getting reduced, as the quota is being distributed further beyond Mangaluru. A train that was meant to serve Karnataka is now gradually shifting its benefit away from the state. Despite strong and continuous opposition from the people of Dakshina Kannada, both South Western Railway (SWR) and Southern Railway (SR) are pushing these decisions without giving any importance to public concerns. If connectivity to Kerala is being cited as the reason, then let them demand and introduce a separate new train for that purpose. Why should an existing train meant for Mangaluru be continuously extended and diluted instead of addressing Karnataka’s needs? At the same time, long-pending railway demands of Mangaluru and Karnataka are being ignored — no proper new trains, no restoration of important services, no priority for connectivity via the Hassan line, and no effort to strengthen internal connectivity within Karnataka. People are not against connectivity, but they are strongly against losing their rightful share of seats, berths, and priority in a train originally meant for their region. Now it is very clear — no more extensions are needed. Enough is enough. Stop this immediately. We strongly urge @SWRRLY and @GMSRailway to roll back further extension plans and protect the existing seat and berth quota for Mangaluru and Dakshina Kannada passengers without any reduction. @CaptBrijesh sir, This is the time to break your silence. People of Dakshina Kannada are expecting you to stand up and protect their interests. And a final question to @SWRRLY, @GMSRailway - After Shoranur Jn, what next? Palakkad Jn? Thiruvananthapuram Central? Or even Kanyakumari? Where does this end? @AshwiniVaishnaw @VSOMANNA_BJP @RailMinIndia @drmsbc @DRMPalghat @Tejasvi_Surya @ShobhaBJP @PCMohanMP @dineshgrao
