And the $1.65B they have paid out is just a fraction of what should have been paid. The #NFL litigates individual claims as if they were lawsuit.

Insurance industry is waking up to the costs of #concussion & #CTE. They will no longer insure the AFL. Pro sports knows the cost, which is why they fight. NFL settlement has already paid $1.65B, when they thought it'd only be $765M total. More CTE than expected... Not good.

“Hear Me…” Mike Tomlin GOLD 🔥 “It’s not what you are capable of; it’s what you are willing to do. Plenty of people are capable. Fewer people are willing.” Potential is common. Commitment is rare.

The official NFL Player Advocacy Committee (PAC) is here to help retired players who need assistance with their NFL Concussion Settlement.  Our committee works to ensure that players understand their rights and have access to the resources available through the settlement.

For lawyers, this is a watershed moment. For other stakeholders, it is no longer possible to say “we don’t even know if sports caused this.”
Chris Nowinski, Ph.D.@ChrisNowinski1

NO MORE PLAYING GAMES: Breakthrough analysis reveals repetitive head impacts are a DEFINITIVE CAUSE of #CTE. Sports industry must acknowledge cause-and-effect & get to work protecting their athletes, especially children. Release, study & a thread: concussionfoundation.org/news/press-rel…

Judge Wolson, who has replaced Judge Brody in the #NFL Concussion settlement has issued his first order, calling for a status conference with the Parties' lead counsel.

#FYI It appears Judge Brody has retired. I just saw this reassignment from the Judicial Panel for Multidistrict Litigation.

Some personal news: I’m among today’s @washingtonpost layoffs. It was a dream 11-year run as an investigative reporter focused on sports—making billionaires tremble (or at least mildly annoying them and their lawyers.) A few highlights from the ride: 🧵

@washingtonpost @PostBaron @AlbertSamaha @Sam4TR Working at The Washington Post, as an investigative reporter, was my dream job. I first read 'All the President’s Men' at 12. (I was a nerd.) And it has been every bit as fun, exhilarating and rewarding as I imagined. I’m not sure what’s next, but I’m excited to find out. Onward.

Leading off the Global CTE Summit is Dr. Ann McKee, co-founder & director of the BU CTE Center and the UNITE Brain Bank. Dr. McKee gives an overview of what we've learned about CTE pathology from nearly 1,800 Legacy Donors whose loved ones have donated their brain to research.

This is rough to see. From my own recent experience, it feels like #cte but also #pd or #Lewybodies could be triggering his issues, and ALL are found overwhelmingly more often in brains of #nfl players / those exposed to head-hits in sports.
