Well do I have news for you! As a part of the Sprint City Centre project, Corporation St will indeed see the removal of most parking spaces, narrowing of the road, widening of the pavements along with a new zebra crossing. Hopefully new paving too rather than tarmac!

Things went downhill when the motor industry imposed on-street parking on everyone, and society accepted that drivers could litter the streets with their private property for free. Be like Tokyo, if you want to own a car, you need somewhere off the street to store it

@FestAKINBUSOYE Cutty Sark has been closed for nearly a year to fix the escalators which barely worked in the first place. I don’t understand why they can’t keep it open even just with stair access.

The escalator at St. John's Wood station remains unfixed since December 2025. Apparently, it can take about six months to fix an escalator leaving parents with prams, disabled and elderly to use stairs to get downstairs for trains. Very niche fact.

@MerrynSW A shift to treating it as a tax doesn't work as graduates with rich parents could immediately buy their way out of the lifelong tax. The 9% is fine if the gross amount of debt+interest is feasible to be paid off within that timeframe.

Student loans. All the talk is of cutting the interest rate or the threshold. Won't help. This is a NINE percentage point graduate tax. Want to help? If you can't reform the whole system, cut the tax.. from a 9% marginal rate to something not so nasty and disincentivizing.

Some context is required on the student loans debate. I understand the issue and changes are needed, but this guy is never going to pay back £110,000 or whatever it goes up to. He's paid back around £2,500 per year, so far. Let's say over the next 27 years he pays back £100,000 before it's written off, that's a pretty good rate on a 30-year loan.

About to go on @GMB to argue why Chancellor is morally wrong to freeze the Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold, and should reverse the decision... ...while in practice for most with that loan it works like a graduate tax, it was deliberately set up and sold as a loan contract (both so the wealthy didn't need get it and so if you move abroad you still owe it). Freezing the threshold is a one sided breach of contractual terms. No commercial lender would be allowed to do it, the FCA would strike it down. The govt shouldnt be allowed to do it either, it should at the very least stick to the terms it agreed with students when they took out their loans. This freeze hits lower and middle earning graduates the hardest. They will end up repaying, at a guesstimate, £300/yr more due to it and do so for the rest of their loan's 30yr life. While the highest earners will pay more each year too, at least for them it'll mean they'll clear the loan earlier so repay less interest.

@SheldonTarpey @MartinSLewis @GMB Repayments(of 9%) are based on salary/threshold regardless of income and loan size - for the average earners restoring the threshold is far more important than interest rates - this is probably why Rachel Reeves has chosen to freeze it because she knows it will raise more money
