LEXINGTON, KY—Donald J. Trump was reportedly “apoplectic with rage” on Saturday after a tiny crowd showed up for his heavily-publicized “Pro Kings” rally. An advance team led by Eric Trump had scheduled the event at Lexington, Kentucky’s Kroger Field, a stadium with a 61,000 seat capacity, but engaged in what was called “an orgy of finger-pointing” after only 17 people turned out. Taking to Truth Social, Donald Trump called the tiny Pro Kings crowd a “total disgrace,” adding, “Especially this year, when we’re celebrating the 250th anniversary of the last time we had a King!”

I had a friend who had this experience and and said he knew others with completely non-observant families who were also told this by rabbeim there. Perhaps it was individuals rather than a policy.

Not sure who had this experience in your life but I can guarantee you that it’s not mainstream. I have more non Frum family than Frum and none of my Rebbeim at any point in my life ever told me to do this. Most of my friends have non Frum family and I’ve never heard of this being done. After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. You can resign and ostensibly make it about Iran, but scapegoating Israel and it's "powerful American lobby" for Trump's decision to go to war puts Jews in danger. Look at what happened last week in Michigan. The Israel blame-game isn’t just wrong, it invites antisemitism.

@PeterBeinart Signs at synagogues that say "We stand with Israel" were probably posted long before the current conflicts in the region. Saying "We support Israel's right to exist" is not saying "We stand with the decisions of the current Israeli government."

People who dislike Israel should not conflate it with American Jews -just as people should not conflate the PRC with Chinese Americans or ISIS with American Muslims. And (not but) synagogues should not say "We stand with Israel" because it encourages that conflation. It makes congregants less safe but, more importantly, given what Israel is doing, it's morally indefensible.
