Thanks, Anthropic, for helping protect Zcash users. At Shielded Labs’s request, they ran a security audit of Zcash with Mythos. It did not find any more serious bugs in the Zcash protocol. Shielded Labs and others are continuing security hardening work. Stay tuned for updates.

Done a lot of thinking about zcash lately. In the end, what happened was simple: people learned that with private chains, it's possible for inflation bugs to go unnoticed. The theoretical exploit is really not a concern for anyone paying attention. What did do damage to the narrative is that, while explaining the Orchard exploit, it had to be said over and over: "We aren't sure whether there has been inflation in the Orchard pool." That was the damage. That's what I, and a lot of other people, have been thinking about. In the end, I think we will get over this and it will be in the past and Zcash will continue to thrive, simply because that lack of auditability is actually an inherent tradeoff in privacy. While it sounds batshit insane to say, "the supply could be maliciously inflated without us knowing," it is ultimately no different than saying, "bitcoin's consensus could be broken by a 51% attack," or "the supply of ethereum could inflate forever under the right conditions." There is a world of edge cases that people maintaining these systems are tirelessly working against. And, in fact, what we saw with Orchard was exactly what we want to see: the good guys found a theoretical exploit and patched it. Given the behavior of the Orchard pool since the Ironwood announcement the possibility that the exploit was ever actually used by an attacker is, for me, completely gone. The only thing that remains with us is that meme: if an attacker finds the right exploit, they could theoretically inflate the supply without anyone knowing. That's the privacy tradeoff. It doesn't mean that private chains are the only one with risks. It just means that this is their main class of risk. At the same time, I've come to really appreciate the features that Zcash has going for it: funds can enter and exit a shielded pool, so if you're ever worried if your funds are "safe" you can just exit the pool where they're transparent. While shielded, all your activity is completely private. While unshielded, you're completely safe from even this hypothetical attack. Moreover, after unshielding, your coins are effectively washed--like TornadoCash, but better. Shielding while active and unshielding at rest is actually a very effective and easy way to use the chain, if you want to be hyper-careful about this possible attack. Overall, Zcash is the best private money that we have. While it has not solved the inherent tradeoff of privacy coins, to me the value of privacy, the incredibly low chance of an exploit like this actually taking place, and the ability to preclude yourself from such theft by saying unshielded at rest, all add up to a great value proposition. This talking point has been beaten to death by everyone else, but considering the enormous attack on privacy that various European countries are launching against their people, the zeitgeist is very disturbing, and the need for privacy really will become more significant than ever.

We can formally verify Zcash's shielded protocol so that the concern you're worried about -- the unique class of supply integrity vulnerabilities -- is actually *impossible.* (It mathematically reduces directly to the cryptographic assumptions.) It's something we can probably do within weeks for our *existing* protocol, because the theorems are very simple and the proofs don't have to be written or checked by humans anymore... I think this more than satisfies the concern. I've actually been talking about this for Zcash for a long time now! I've been blogging about it for nearly a year, we hired experts 6 months ago to help us formally verify our upcoming Zcash upgrade, it was the main focus of a post of mine last month... Un circuit ZK c’est une serrure mathématique, mais pas une serrure ordinaire. Une serrure ordinaire prouve que tu as la clé. Elle ne prouve rien d’autre. La serrure ZK est différente. Elle peut prouver n’importe quelle propriété sur tes données, sans jamais les révéler. Que tu as l’âge requis sans dire ton âge. Que tu as les fonds suffisants sans dire combien. Que tu as exécuté un calcul correctement sans montrer les inputs. C’est ça le concept fondamental : vérifier une propriété sans exposer les données qui la prouvent. Le circuit arithmétique est la définition précise de cette propriété. La preuve ZK atteste que tes données la satisfont, sans les révéler. Mais cette définition est coulée dans le métal au moment où tu écris le circuit. Changer ce que “valide” signifie, corriger un bug, ajouter une propriété : tu refonds la serrure entière. Toutes les anciennes preuves deviennent incompatibles. Ce n’est pas un défaut. C’est un choix fondamental by design. La rigidité du circuit est précisément ce qui rend la preuve incontestable. Zcash vient de le vivre cette semaine. Un bug découvert dans le circuit du pool Orchard : les contraintes arithmétiques permettaient des transitions d’état invalides. En clair, la serrure acceptait des clés qui n’auraient pas dû fonctionner. Pas une erreur de code corrigeable par patch. Une erreur dans la définition même de ce qui est valide. Résultat : hard fork d’urgence, nouvelle serrure, deuxième upgrade de sécurité en dix ans d’existence du protocole. Et c’est là que ça devient une course. Les outils IA vont progressivement automatiser l’écriture, l’audit et la correction des circuits. Trouver les bugs avant qu’ils arrivent en production. Générer de nouveaux circuits à partir de specs fonctionnelles. Optimiser les contraintes arithmétiques automatiquement. Comme avec les téléphones : le hardware est contraint par la physique, le software rattrape en permanence. Ici le circuit est contraint par les mathématiques, l’IA rattrape en permanence. La question n’est plus si les ZK proofs vont scaler dans des systèmes complexes. C’est à quelle vitesse l’outillage IA va absorber la rigidité by design.

ZEC update 2 juin 2026 $ZEC/BTC reste en Strong Buy sur les timeframes supérieurs. Premier weekly golden cross 50/200 EMA jamais vu sur ZEC/BTC. Le ratio est au-dessus des moyennes clés et ZEC surperforme BTC en relatif depuis février… et encore aujourd’hui malgré la macro. Parce que « malgré tout », c’est le mot. Cette nuit / ce matin : mise à niveau réseau coordonnée d’urgence sur l’Orchard shielded pool après détection d’une vulnérabilité critique lors d’un audit de routine du weekend. Faits confirmés par @zodl_co et l’écosystème : - Upgrade déployé autour de 22:30 ET le 1er juin (~02:30 UTC le 2 juin) → avant toute exploitation connue. Aucune preuve d’exploit. - Seules les transactions Orchard (envoi/réception + mining dans le shielded pool) sont temporairement suspendues.
Transparent + Sapling fonctionnent normalement.
Les ZEC sur exchanges (transparent) ne sont pas affectés. - Fonds 100 % sûrs. Confidentialité intacte. Aucune action utilisateur requise. - Les mining pools ont demandé du temps supplémentaire pour le déploiement coordonné (équipes sur plusieurs fuseaux horaires).
Réactivation ciblée vers 23:00 EDT (≈ 03:00 UTC le 3 juin). - Disclosure technique complète attendue dans les heures/jours qui viennent. - Les autres protocoles qui utilisent Orchard ont été notifiés. C’est exactement ce qu’on attend d’un protocole sérieux et mature :
audit actif permanent → détection proactive → réponse coordonnée et transparente → communication claire.
Pas de panique, pas de FUD, pas de pertes. Le système a fonctionné.
 La communauté et les ambassadeurs saluent unanimement le professionnalisme des devs. Respect total. Pipeline de développement toujours solide : - NU7 testnet live depuis le 22 mai. Block time en forte réduction et NSM activé. - ZSAs + format v6 reportés pour garantir la compatibilité Ledger/Keystone. Frustrant à court terme, mais parfaitement cohérent avec la philosophie « ne rien casser pour les hardware wallets ». - Premier vote coinholder via Zodl en test interne. NU7 sera le premier poll officiel. - Vizor wallet maintenant cross-platform (macOS + Windows + Linux) : shielded-by-default, intégration Keystone dès le jour 1. Un wallet desktop propre, privacy-first. Prix : volatilité normale aujourd’hui (zone 550-620 $ selon les snapshots, avec rebond récent vers ~617 $ et +12 % sur 24h dans plusieurs données).
BTC a également été impacté. L’incident Orchard a pu amplifier légèrement le mouvement à très court terme, mais la corrélation macro existait avant l’annonce. Le ratio ZEC/BTC ne ment pas. C’est le vrai signal. (mais n’est pas un conseil d’investissement)

This is false. Zcash is not “banned” in the EU. The EU rules restrict what regulated crypto service providers may offer when accounts or trading activity prevent identification of holders or transaction history. They do not ban the Zcash protocol, ZEC ownership, self-custody, peer-to-peer use, or transparent Zcash transactions. Zcash is also being mischaracterized here. Zcash supports both transparent addresses and shielded addresses. Transparent Zcash transactions work like Bitcoin-style public transactions: sender, receiver, and value are publicly visible. Zcash also supports view keys, which let a user give a third party read access to shielded transaction details without giving spending authority. That enables selective disclosure for audits, tax, AML, or other compliance workflows. The relevant EU MiCA rule for trading platforms is conditional: crypto-assets with an inbuilt anonymisation function cannot be admitted to trading unless the platform can identify holders and their transaction history. Zcash’s transparent transaction mode and view-key/selective-disclosure design are directly relevant to satisfying that kind of requirement. Zcash is not banned in the EU.
