The reason journalists are freaking out about the leaks for the new Resident Evil game is that the narrative is already getting set... and the game reeks of modern agenda retconning. The female characters are all covered up with a practical jacket, a hoodie, short hair karenhaircut, and jeans; a stark departure from previous games with Jill's tube top, Ada's red dress, and Lady D's whole package of ridiculous proportions. The leaks are full of women with strong, independent women vibes. It's not like the face model (Julia Pratt) is hideous, no, but the in-game model is visibly older with a uglified filter, and no fan service, no cleavage, no midriff, no thighs, nothing. This is the typical aged trope common in modern gaming. Even the supposed "fan service" Lady D skin is a very toned-down version with no exaggerated curves. Compare that to Leon. Rumors and interviews hint that the "female staff" at Capcom were strict on his depiction, to ensure that he has this hot uncle silver fox look. The male lead gets the thirst trap treatment, fan service for women, while the women in the game get covered up to "avert the male gaze". Combine that with what others are saying about the leaked game... "gameplay is fine but nothing special", with others calling the story a convoluted mess that ruins half the lore.
