Asia-Pacific urban economies rely to a great extent on informal workers yet keeping most outside the basic protections others take for granted. We can square this circle pretty fast through policy action! At #APFSD, @UNDPasiapac @UNESCAP @ADB_HQ presented our analysis on the new urban space, and I argued for specific legal recognitions, supply chain integration in growth sectors, and introducing new tech designed to lift dignity, safety and earnings. This will help build the next generation workforce for livable affordable cities of the future. Secretary (West) @AmbSibiGeorge received Mr Shombi Sharp, Deputy Executive Secretary for Partnerships and Coordination, United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Bangkok on March 6, 2026 on the sidelines of Raisina Dialogue 2026. Mr Sharp briefed Secretary about the forthcoming activities of UNESCAP in the region. They also exchanged views on recent political developments in the region.
