🚨❌📺 #DISGUSTING — Longtime , 35-year veteran Sky Sports’ commentator Ewen Murray says American fan behaviour at The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage prompted him to kick retirement plans into gear, with his final event on the job coming as soon as this summer at Gleneagles. “I heard stuff in that half-hour that I can’t repeat to you, it’s that bad. Not fired at Rory but at Rory’s family. I walked back and I thought, ‘Do you really need to be part of this anymore?’ “That’s when I decided to finish commentary. By the time I got on the plane on a Monday, I looked out over New York and thought it's been a fantastic journey, but if that’s our future, I really don’t want any part of it.” Murray also tee’d off on U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley for encouraging the behaviour: "I don't think they did themselves any favors at all. I also feel with the woman who was swearing behind the tee, shouting at Rory in a horrible manner, if Keegan Bradley, who came and supported it and waved his hands to get the crowd to get louder, if he spent as much time looking at his pairings, Keegan Bradley may well have been a winning Ryder Cup captain….” “I think they spent way too much energy on something that was disgusting and really had no place in our game.” ➡️ Did Bethpage behaviour cross the line? A couple of years ago my life was saved by a very special man. His name is Hanny Anwar. He’s a surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He removed the cancer from the base of my spine. Along with a lot of bone. But he did so much more than that. Surgeons have a reputation for being cocky, arrogant and cursed with poor people skills. Hanny isn't like that. As well as being exceptionally gifted, he's also a very thoughtful and spiritual man. Once he'd diagnosed my cancer as chordoma, he explained to me that it has a very high recurrence rate. On average, there's a 60% chance that chordomas return. I was trying to get my head around this. That I was going to put myself through brutal surgery with a long recovery, losing bladder bowel and sexual function... to emerge with the odds against me. Hanny said something to me that I'll never forget. He reassured me that if the cancer did return that it could be treated with radiotherapy or further surgery. He told me that the hospital treats patients with recurrent cancer that live for decades. 'So if it comes back, it's not necessarily a death sentence?', I asked. 'No more than life is', he replied. Wow. It was such a great answer, I burst out laughing. In that moment I knew that I completely trusted him. I felt immensely privileged to be his patient. Along with his colleague who also operated on me, John Afolayan, he is currently trekking ONE HUNDRED KILOMETRES across THE SAHARA DESERT. It will take them five days. Yes, they're insane. But they’re doing it to raise money for the @thernohcharity.    All the money raised goes back into NHS services at the hospital to help more patients in the future. The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital is our only national orthopaedic hospital. It treats patients from all over the country, including injured service personnel and people like me who suffer from rare bone cancer. Anything you can give will make a massive difference. Surely they deserve it. Thank you. justgiving.com/campaign/rnohs…

In March 1881, Scotland travelled to London, put on one of the greatest performances in the history of international football, and the man wearing the captain’s armband made history that the world would then forget for over a century. His name was Andrew Watson. He was born in British Guiana to a wealthy Scottish father from Orkney and a local woman named Hannah Rose. Brought to Britain for his education, he fell in love with football and turned out to be so gifted that Queen’s Park, the most influential club in Scotland, made him one of their leading players and later a club official. Then Scotland made him their captain. And on 12th March 1881, in front of a packed crowd at the Kennington Oval in London, Andrew Watson led his country onto the pitch and into the history books. He became the world’s first Black international footballer and the first Black man to captain his country in association football. Scotland went out and destroyed England 6-1. It remains England’s worst ever home defeat in the history of football to this day. Watson won only three caps for Scotland, but never lost a single one. The scorelines in his three internationals were 6–1, 5–1 and 5–1. Scotland scored 16 goals with him in the side and conceded only 3. He also went on to become the first Black player to win a major competition and later the first Black player in the FA Cup after moving south. Then history forgot him entirely. For decades, his name barely featured in the story of the sport he had helped shape. It took dedicated researchers, old records and rediscovered photographs to restore him to his rightful place. Today, Andrew Watson is recognised not just as a pioneer, but as one of football’s most important early figures. A pioneer. A captain. A man who walked out in front of a hostile crowd in London, led his country to one of the most famous victories in Scottish football history. Remembered now. As he always should have been. © Scottish Banter #archaeohistories

Most people take melatonin right before bed. That might be one of the worst times to take it. Melatonin isn't a sedative, it's a chronobiotic. It doesn't knock you out. It signals to your circadian clock that it's dark. And the effect it has on your sleep timing depends entirely on WHEN you take it. There's a concept called the Phase Response Curve. It shows that melatonin taken ~3 hours before your usual bedtime produces the largest phase advance, meaning it shifts your internal clock earlier, so you fall asleep sooner and wake up easier. But take it AT bedtime? You can actually push your clock in the wrong direction. That's a phase delay. You end up falling asleep later over time, not earlier. The sweet spot sits just before dim light melatonin onset, the point when your brain would naturally start releasing melatonin. For most people, that's roughly 3 hours before habitual bedtime. Timing > dose. Lewy et al. (1998), Burgess et al. (2010), and Challet et al., J Pineal Res (2024).

..his first ball was a three-quarter-pace loosener which nevertheless rapped Boycott on the gloves and dropped just short of the slips. Each succeeding ball after that was quicker than the previous one. The second beat Boycott outside the off stump, and the third cut back and struck him on the inside of his right thigh. The fourth and fifth both hurried Boycott, but he just about managed to keep them out.... Then came the final ball, the coup de grace, delivered at a fearsome pace, which was pitched up and sent his off stump cartwheeling almost 20 yards as he desperately and belatedly brought his bat down. After a momentary silence, the crowd erupted. "Boycott looked round," observed Keating.... his mouth gaped and he tottered as if he'd seen the Devil himself. Then slowly he walked away, erect and brave and beaten." He glanced towards the England dressing-room and saw Chris Old "with his mouth wide open ... he too had the look of a man who had seen a monster". My favourite fast bowler, Micheal Holding, is seventy two today.
