@snarkolepsy @merlinscapital You can only walk up hill one way, dear. If you think there aren’t millennials that sacrificed their youth for promotions and chasing dollars, you’re sorely mistaken. You didn’t invent the grind. I own amongst the mediocrity of your generation, and keep a nicer residence.

@merlinscapital Imagine waking up in 1960 after you just got off your manufacturing job tired as fuck only to realize in 2026 people sit in their pajamas goading people for clicks to their rent. Talk about privilege!

@timcguinness @rickycarruth Yes, they didn’t contribute at all to the financial crisis, acting with the best of intentions… all the lenders fault… You see them being snakes now with “innovative offers” for low monthly payments and adjustable rates.

Your real estate agent worked 90 days for free on your house and you're trying to cut their fee over the cost of a steak dinner.

@EricaMBergstrom @devahaz How has any policy by Boomers reflected theories of their parents/grandparents of leaving America better than they found it for younger generations? So no, beans and rice, rice and beans for Boomers. Plan better for retirement. You’re not entitled to retire.

Lot of people in my replies today wanting to expand entitlements for seniors. I’m all for providing assistance to any poor who need help, we’re a rich country! But shifting property tax burden onto younger people from all elderly regardless of financial situation makes no sense.

@Radze11 @devahaz Go live in the Alaskan bush where there are no civic services and infrastructure to depend on and you can avoid property taxes. Or just do as people have done since the 1600’s in this country, and stop being entitled.

@devahaz Entitlements? For something I paid off after 30 years? I'm happy to contribute and pay taxes for roads and police, but take it from elsewhere. Make it a community tax, not a property tax.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman You pay for your usage, not the infrastructure and maintenance. Every state has property taxes. State and federal taxes on income is theft. Consistently taking a % of your effort without considering your occupancy footprint… that’s more reasonable to you than tangible items?

@ShupeDre @michaelpfreeman I pay for water, electricity, wastewater treatment, trash take out etc...so if property taxes were meant to cover all that I am double paying. State taxes on income should cover deeds and other records and federal income taxes cover military.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman Side note, if you purchase mining rights in an unorganized Borough in Alaska (random island) where nothing is provided, and you build a structure to live on, you do not have to pay property taxes. You will also have 0 support for anything. So it can be done.

@ShupeDre @michaelpfreeman Please explain your thoughts on it being ok to tax a property that doesn't belong to you? I'm willing to listen, but never heard a good argument for it.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman 2- library access, stormwater runoff systems, wastewater treatment, document record-keeping of your property, and if we’re talking 1776- you would have no protection from foreign invaders.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman 1- You own the land and structure on top of it. You do not own: surrounding infrastructure for fresh water/piping, sewage system, gas lines, electricity, surrounding roads, access to firefighters and law enforcement, mail service, telephone lines, public education for kids,

@actually796 @EvelynPR0777 @SakeNigiriBBQ Not the direction I was thinking you would take this, BUT- why do states like AK, MT, WV, KY take more federal resources (per capita, not total dollars)?

No senior should have to pay property taxes. They worked hard all their life, paid their mortgage and when they retire they should not be afraid of losing it due to property taxes. This is not a one state issue, should be in all states.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman Property tax is the only tax I believe is justified and predates the American revolution. Most need immediate local services to survive. Everything else is wasteful big govt spending.

@ShupeDre @michaelpfreeman For the record I'm not advocating for seniors here. My whole point is the government overreached it's authority when it instituted property taxes and it's been theft on people ever since. That's my main point.

@WVValkeryie @michaelpfreeman I hear you. But, I’m thinking of retired Boomers that own 1-3 properties in desirable regions that don’t want to pay as those who before them did. Every financial manager accounts for p-tax in retirement numbers.

My parents were the silent generation, coal miners, Korea and Nam vets. They didn’t earn the big bucks today’s generation feels entitled too. They also didn’t have 401k’s and jobs with a pension were hard to get. They counted on SS to survive. Those are the people I am fighting for.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman No, property is most commonly used per district. Agree with you wholeheartedly on management and not raising beyond inflation. But… the people with the benefit of compounding wealth due to age do not need more breaks. And yes, there’s a price to pay for irresponsible youth.

@ShupeDre @michaelpfreeman That's what the other 75 taxes we pay are for. How about asking the government to manage our money better and not take far more than what belongs to them.

@WVValkeryie @michaelpfreeman As a millennial, I was raised by Silent Generation farmers. Unlike their offspring in a rat race to consume debt (boomer), I listened… So no, I won’t be complaining when I’m at your age. You’re just not running away from your responsibilities.

@jdprestwood @michaelpfreeman Perfect, so do the following: 1) Pay back your k-12 education other paid for, with interest to today’s value 2) Pay HOA like fees in advance for remaining years expected on property for first responders, roads and services. Then we’re all squared up.
