I grew up in Wagga Wagga where the kids growing up used to play a game called "Red Rover Cross Over". It was mainly a boys game where all the boys would gather in a group at the end of the playground with one boy standing in the middle of the playground. He'd yell "Red Rover Cross Over” and all the other kids had to run to the other end of the playground without being caught. The kid in the middle had to catch and hold one of them while yelling "caught 123" The kid caught would then join the kid in the middle for the next call of "Red Rover Cross Over" during which both kids in the middle would catch another kid who would stay in the middle and so on. The last kid caught would win the game and he'd be the one to stay in the middle for next round. It was good fun (my three daughters used to play it most afternoons with me) while giving the kids exercise and training for future rugby teams or other sports. Can anyone else recall playing the same game?

An Avon and Somerset Police officer who tasered a teenager on a motorway shortly before he was hit and killed by a car is being investigated by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over their use of force.  Logan Smith was in an ambulance, heading to hospital just after 11pm, on 30 November 2025 when it pulled over on the hard shoulder of the M5, northbound, due to concerns the paramedics had about Logan’s welfare.    The 18-year-old got out of the ambulance close to the junction for Weston-super-Mare and ran on to the motorway. Ambulance crew called police for assistance and an officer arrived soon after. The officer tried to interact with Logan on the motorway and a short time later discharged their Taser. Logan fell into a live lane of the motorway and was struck by a car, heading southbound. He was given medical treatment, but sadly died at the scene.   We are looking at whether the tactical options, including the use of Taser by the officer, was proportionate and reasonable and if relevant training and policies were followed. At this stage and having considered the evidence currently available, we believe there is an indication the officer may have breached the police standards of professional behaviour at the level of misconduct. An allegation of misconduct relates to behaviour that, if proven, may lead to disciplinary action such as a final written warning. It would not result in a sanction of dismissal. The potential misconduct we have identified is in relation to the officer’s decision to use their Taser. It is also alleged the officer failed to carry out a pre-discharge check of their Taser, as required under Avon and Somerset Police protocol. So far, our enquiries show the Taser functioned normally when discharged. The misconduct notice will be kept under review and does not necessarily mean that any disciplinary proceedings will follow.   IOPC Director Derrick Campbell said: “Our thoughts and sympathies remain with Logan’s family and friends. We understand the profound impact losing Logan has had on his loved ones and we want to reassure everyone that we are carrying out a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.” “As part of our investigation we have commissioned a report from an independent Taser expert. We have shared that report with Logan’s family and Avon and Somerset Police and we are considering its findings as part of our final determinations.” “We continue to update Logan’s family, the force and the coroner on the progress of our investigation.” Link to the statement: policeconduct.gov.uk/news/avon-and-…

@GazzaFox1980 That isn't what the police officer said. If you taser someone their muscles lock up in any case

Hold on - what? If police officers think someone might be carrying explosives, protocol is to kick them in the head repeatedly like this? Is that actual police protocol? If so, how is it a wise police protocol? Can someone explain the reasoning?
Sky News@SkyNews

.@KamaliMelbourne: 'The video of the Golders Green terror attack arrest shows the officers kicking this individual in the head. Is that appropriate force to use?' Met Police Commissioner: "In most situations it wouldn't be reasonable, but in that situation it was reasonable."

Morrisons SACKS another worker for tackling teenage shoplifter, 62-year-old grandmother and acting team leader Jane Pilborough with 30 years service at the Newark store grabbed a 14 or 15-year-old thief's rucksack as he tried to run off with stolen chicken bites, she walked backwards in front of him asking him to pay first and called for security via her headset but got no response, Pilborough said it was pure instinct in a fight or flight moment and CCTV showed her falling to the ground when he spun around, A clearly shaken Ms Pilborough was helped to her feet and taken to the store's staff canteen after suffering minor injuries to her hand and knee. Morrisons has a strict "deter not detain" policy introduced in 2023 that forbids any physical intervention to protect staff safety with only police allowed to act, bosses sacked her for gross misconduct saying she put herself colleagues and customers in danger and risked the company's reputation if it had been filmed, her appeal was rejected in October 2024 with the firm acknowledging her care for the store but insisting she worsened the situation by not just letting him leave, A spokesperson for the supermarket said: 'We recognise that difficult situations like this can cause real challenges for colleagues in store. That's why, when dealing with a shoplifter, a colleague's safety is always the number one priority and why we have clear procedures in place to de-escalate incidents, to prevent any of our colleagues being put at risk in a physical struggle and coming to harm. 'We believe colleague safety always outweighs the protection of stock. We cannot ignore the potential for violence, and it is essential to remember that only the police are authorised to intervene in these situations. 'Unfortunately, the former colleague's actions and the evidence to the disciplinary hearing showed that, although she had been trained on how to respond to a theft situation safely just a few weeks before the incident, she did not follow that procedure and that led to a physical altercation with a juvenile shoplifter What do you think of the sacking?

Request for help* The boss won’t let me eat mini rolls at home. Hence why my mum let me scoff them when I visited her on Tuesdays. So, I’m looking for anyone who will accommodate me on a Tuesday so I can devour mini rolls. I’m house trained. And we can talk tachographs.

@nickbailey317 Hes stabbed two people. Still combative Still holding a knife. Could he have another knife? Could he have a gun concealed? Could he be carrying explosives? Basically he's still a clear and present threat to everyone around. Officers went hard and fast to remove the threat.

The officers did amazing work up until they chose to treat his head like a football. You can’t kick someone repeatedly in the head when they don’t pose any threat. Disproportionate use of force which could have killed him. He’d been tasered and he was face down on the ground. This cannot be allowed to stand. Police cannot act as judge, jury and executioner.
Metropolitan Police@metpoliceuk

Our brave officers confronted a man they believed to be a terrorist, who refused to show his hands, who was violent, and who continued to pose a clear threat. Using only their training, courage and tasers, they detained him while he continued to try to attack and stab them. This took true courage.
