I’m sure no one will care but I’ve increasingly used this platform less & less as more hate & destructive conversations take place. Th clear lack of any morals by its owner now leads me t realise I don’t want 2 b associated with this platform. @APMHAHealthCare @acnp_national

It really hurts me to see what people are saying about Schizophrenia online and in the media. I and many other Australians live with this mental disorder every single day of our life. I have bad days, but they are few. My brain simply works differently to yours. I struggle to concentrate and communicate. But most of my days are good. Instead of vilifying those who live with this disorder. How about you do some reading, or ask us questions? It’s not just hallucinations and hearing voices. Most people who have this disorder are more likely to be harmed by those who don’t. We’re not monsters. We’re human beings who have feelings. Stop trying to stigmatise this disorder. When tragedy’s happen like this, it’s mostly because that person was neglected and failed by the mental health system. It could’ve been prevented if the person received the support and care they needed. That’s the problem. I hope this is a wake up call to @AustralianLabor + @LiberalAus Not enough services and most are unaffordable to many Australians who suffer with their mental health every day. Stop stigmatising mental health, and turning your backs on those who need help.

UPDATE: We are mobilising trained disaster mental health support clinicians who will join staff at Bondi Junction in the coming days. The first mental health staff will be at Bondi Junction from this afternoon to provide support. We are also working on finding a location for fixed hub for support over but mental health professionals will be out and about – mobile, visible and available. If you need help you can also call NSW Health’s dedicated Mental Health Line, which is available 24/7 on 1800 011 511.

Reporting on complex mental illness in the context of violence & crime, such as the tragic events in Bondi, can add to stigma for those with lived & living experience of mental health concerns. Free guidelines for #Ausmedia to aid safe, sensitive coverage: bit.ly/42eO3K4

I've been thinking about the cost of a GP to the govt & community, because apparently its OK to keep your Medicare rebate down to 2007 rates. You're funding the gap, and GPs are closing down. Drs who need to pay off their HECS debts are becoming non GP specialists.

@GPswampwarrior The difficulty is that GPs often do not want you to provide ORT services sadly.

Community pharmacies were funded to support people with opioid dependence at a cost $377.3m, for 50 000. This is the equivalent of an extra 1745 full time GPs doing 40 minute drug and alcohol counselling. That would mean a full time GP allocated to three patients.

@LynoreGeia I struggle to imagine how it will ever happen. Those with the money hold the power and give lip service too often to saying they are willing to hand the money and the power over to others who can do better.

@TracyWesterman @NangalaWoodley I absolutely agree with what u said. I wasn’t clear what I was asking. Apologies. Mine was more broadly about culture and expectations. When people say an acknowledgement to country. Is it appropriate for each person to do it through the day, or once? Wanting to be respectful.

@NangalaWoodley @TracyWesterman I’m keen to understand more about this. I often wonder when I am at conferences & each speaker every 20mins gives thanks & recognition. I don’t want to engage in lip service or worse still inappropriate cultural expectations. What is the best way to know what I should do please?

@TracyWesterman Culture has been taken so far out of context these days. It's incredibly offensive to me. Smoking ceremonies & Welcome to countries performed for every bloody thing.

It's unbelieveable that NP care is so discounted by @SylviaJonesMPP @ONThealth that we LITERALLY do not count the the patients who receive their care from an NP. And if you don't count it or measure it, you can fully appreciate the impact NPs have.
