@allie__voss @llallawg First off, the statistics are counted differently. Beyond that, most European die OUTSIDE from heat exhaustion and/or dehydration because they're caught out by the 20 degree temperature shift literally overnight. You don't drink enough water because your body isn't acclimatised.

Rey showed the same kind of raw power fans celebrate in so many male characters, yet she was judged far more harshly by so many. A lot of fans would’ve responded very differently to the sequels if Rey had been a man.

@nathanmaximoff_ @RichBecker The first time she actually fails is in the third movie when she loses control and blows up that transport with Force Lightning. Unless you count the second movie, where Kylo picks power over her after a couple of "Force Skype" calls. That reduces her to an object of desire.

@RichBecker @SigurdStormhand That description isn’t really accurate. Rey fails, gets emotionally manipulated, struggles with identity, and doesn’t “resolve plots with no struggle.” You can critique the writing, but the “no flaws/no struggle” framing isn’t what’s on screen.

@MDemindbender @SigurdStormhand @RichBecker Except Kylo wasn’t some calm fully focused Sith Lord. He was severely injured, emotionally unstable, and trying to recruit Rey, not instantly kill her. Star Wars has always shown Force instinct kicking in before formal training.

@nathanmaximoff_ @RichBecker Go re-watch ANH, Luke nearly dies several times in the Death Star battle, he has to be saved by Wedge, Biggs and Han to make that shot. In TPM Anakin is already an experienced podracer (despite being 10). R2 is also doing the majority of the real piloting for both in battle.

@SigurdStormhand @RichBecker Luke and Anakin also have major “no training” Force moments (Luke blowing up the Death Star, Anakin pod racing/piloting in battle). They succeed through instinct and Force connection, not formal training. (1/2)

@nathanmaximoff_ @RichBecker Luke and Anakin spent their middle movie getting beat to hell after doing very little in their first movie. Rey, with no training, beat a Jedi trained by Luke Skywalker in her first movie. Luke or Anakin LITERALLY lost an arm at that point. Please stop this.

@RichBecker Then why do people accept Force prodigy Anakin and farmboy Luke so easily, but write essays about Rey being “unearned”? 🤷

@hymns_imperium My first reaction was, "this is silly", then I remembered shows like, "The Misfit of Demon King Academy", and, "The Irregular at Magic High School", exist, and I realised the idea was actually quite tame!

@Grownded Most brick houses are double-skinned in the UK, with an inner and outer wall and an air-gap or insulation in between. We're not living in caves.

It absolutely astounds me just how ignorant Brits are about the Americas, and yet how confident they are in their ignorance. Like... 0°C isn't even that cold. We have AC AND heat. Brick and stone aren't insulators, but fiberglass in wood frame is, and has less thermal bridging than a brick block mass wall.

"Well its 40+ degrees over here so you brits are just weak" okay but try turning that 40+ degree heat into 0 degrees and see how your cardboard houses and AC helps you there mate

@NipseyHoussle I'm working this Saturday and Sunday, they're our busiest days of the week. Most services in the UK like plumbers are available Saturdays. What we DO have in Europe are minimum standards of employee welfare, unlike the US (if Twitter is to be believed).

Interesting thing about being an American in Europe: Europeans don’t work weekends. Ever. You might think, well, nobody works weekends. But in the US there are whole industries built around it. Real estate agents. Car dealerships. Saturday and Sunday are the business. Not here. If you want to see a house or test drive a car, you take time off work to do it. Somehow this is normal. I don’t know how they pull it off. But they do.

@BlasterMasterG2 @kiddbanditpro And that is the number one reason the series got so much backlash. A lot of people were willing to give it a chance, right up to that point. Undermining Kai Adi-Mundi and Yoda like that was a red line.

@kiddbanditpro The only thing I cannot seem to make sense of in the Acolyte is multiple Jedi die at the hands of the Sith apprentice and yet by the time Episode I roles around almost the entire Jedi Counsel thinks the Sith are still extinct?

@ThornRanger @TwinkRaccoon Almost no one in the UK has a sliding sash window now. Plus, you probably couldn't return it unless you got it online. UK retailers aren't going to accept a non-faulty used Air-Con unit for hygiene reasons.

Knowing the Brits, they'll probably eventually cave and get air conditioning. But it will probably be some totally nonsensical centralized system, where you get air piped into your house by the N.A.S., National Air Service. It will be considered genius and efficient at first, and then go broke in 10 years. They will also base their entire identity off of telling Americans they pay for AC.

@PiercetonM50791 @RBPundit Nah, they had thousands of years to adapt. It's never not been this hot before. It's nothing new. There are plenty of air conditioners that'd fit easy in any building. Mini splits and window units. The reason is government and unwillingness. Any other reason is made up BS.

@MamboFloof It's not summer here, it's spring, and it's currently TRWNTY degrees hotter than normal in some places. In a few days the temperature will crash. It's not just the heat, it's the violent swings back and forth that make it miserable.

British people are deeply unserious. Ignoring how their "heatwave" is normal Midwest "I'm working outside all day" summer temperatures here, theres nothing stopping them from spending an entire $3-500 to get a damn AC since it's yearly. I guess enjoy melting???
