@ashlielailove Normal nikke combat bodies already weigh something like 150kg+. MegAnis would probably weigh as much as a small car.

@ProudBavaria Also my junior partners being able to declare wars on their own and me not being able to intervene or do place settlements until literally the last integration tier is really goofy.

Personal Unions in EU5 suck so much, man. "Nooo, haha! You're too powerful and renowned! I don't wanna marry into your house! You're just too prestigious!" - Nobody in the history of humanity.

- presenting a technology invented in 1961 as new - video is from a range of only 5000m because said technology relies on visibility - modern aircraft have laser warning receivers anyway - talking about notching as if it's still relevant in air warfare another defenceslop banger
ToughSF@ToughSf

Lasers can be used to search and detect stealth aircraft, since it's difficult to avoid reflecting short wavelength beams, or even track the distortions created by turbulent air in their wake (also getting around Doppler Notching by doing so): geospatialworld.net/article/levera…

@richgel999 My brother in Chirst, most large codebases I've seen are already chock-full of tech debt. This will just make the new shit code already rotten on par with the old code if used idiotically.

@xvrmdf If you are on a model it will get auto-invested a lot of the time. This is what most of the good major providers do for S&S outside of T212 who are their own kettle of fish.

Society has gotten so bizarre because the 18th birthday is seen a a magical event that transforms a kid from a child who cannot be left alone into an adult that can sign up to fire a machine gun for Uncle Sam.

@BiankaB12 As someone who has to deal with this, it's genuinely incredible to witness. I have senior engineers quoting the AI at me, saying shit that is obviously wrong and that they should realise is obviously wrong on it's face, only to go "eto bleh" at me when I point it out.

@Sikalka1 My wishlist would be: -- Planning reform to a rules-based mixed-use zoning system (rather than discretionary case-by-case system) -- Remove affordable housing requirements (functionally a tax on development) -- Greenbelt reform -- Georgist land value tax centreforcities.org/publication/a-…

People will pay higher rents to live in smaller homes if it means living in a high population density area. They will also complain about there being 'too many people', but the higher population density is exactly why the location is desirable.
Jamie H@wight1984

@T1494178470877 Absent any trade-offs, people might like the idea of a detached mansion in a big field away from the city, but revealed preference is for living in high population areas where the jobs, shops, and services are... even if that means living in a smaller home (e.g. a flat)

@wight1984 It illustrates the difficulty of building new buildings to address the massive demand and getting rid of ancient ones, due to nonsense regs and ridiculous "affordable housing" mandates.

@Sikalka1 I think that just illustrates the high demand for well located apartment blocks (demand well above supply, which means very high rents).

@wight1984 I also prefer modern apartments, it's just that none are available at under 5x the rent if at all.

@Sikalka1 I prefer modern apartments to older apartments, but that's why I think the UK should be building a lot more new build apartment blocks in areas of high demand (and, ideally, abolishing leasehold)

@SpaceKoala Yep. Doesn't help that a large section of the housing fund is from the 19th century.

People in the UK have been able to get away with building poorly insulated houses because the weather is so mild and heating was relatively easy. Pretty large portions of the Earth have both hotter summers and colder winters than the UK.
Space Koala@SpaceKoala

"couNTRiES BuILT foR AcTUAl HeAT don't BuILD LIkE THE uK" If your high thermal mass house is poorly insulated, it wasn't built well for cold winters: you just wasted money on heating. Better insulation would cut your heating bill AND save money on air conditioning.

@number_pizza111 It's at the intersection of availability (no IT department will block it), usability and installed user base (everyone uses or has used MS office). It's like saying screwdrivers are obsolete because we have power tools and industrial robots.

@AndyAyrey CTOs rip ahead because they have no idea what they are doing while having the character and skills to sell the resulting mess up the chain or to corporate clients (who are usually equally clueless).

@michael_kove @levie If the company sucks nothing can help you. Some top down push is absolutely required to facilitate initial adoption. At that point it tends to be a monkey see, monkey do situation. Stuff that works tends to spread naturally without you needing to force it down peoples throats.

CEOs are uniquely prone to AI psychosis because they’re sufficiently distant from the last mile of work that still has to happen to generate most value with AI. So when they play with AI, they see the happy path results, often not considering the next 10 or 20 things that have to happen to get sustainable results from agents. “Look I made this awesome product prototype”. Yes but you didn’t have to review the code before it went into production and fix a bunch of issues. “Look I generated a contract”. Yes but you didn’t verify all the terms before it goes out to the counterparty and didn’t have to wire up all the past contracts to work with. The best thing you can do as a CEO is to use AI a *ton* to figure out the real implications of agents in the enterprise, and come out the other side with an appreciation for both the upside and the real work that goes into them.
Michal Malewicz@michalmalewicz

CEOs are the most delusional about AI. Detached from reality.
