@BlueRepublik It’s okay that you don’t know how humans evolved into pack animals and pick groups over individuals generally

In game theory we call this a strictly dominant strategy. A dominates B and A will always produce a better result than B, regardless of how any other player plays. The virtue signal is not altruistic, it's just retarded. You aren't helping anyone by choosing the strictly dominated strategy. These people just want to signal that the "care", when in truth, they signal to bad actors that their emotions can be manipulated for gain.

Performative altruism is a huge problem. The correct answer to this poll is red. If you answer red, you live. Everyone should thus answer red, and everyone lives. There is zero reason for a single person to press blue, if every person is saved by pressing red, and a blue vote is a toss up if you get killed or not. But people who want to feel morally superior about themselves are choosing the answer they see as altruistic, even though it is objectively incorrect and will get them and others killed. Translate this to the real world and things like criminal justice. Morons allow the axe murderer free, because they want to feel merciful. “Look at me, aren’t I just so magnanimous!”

@BobMurphyEcon @Woody1672301 You don’t get to say you don’t want a bunch of people to die when you’re willing to put your individual safety over what is likely BILLIONS

@Woody1672301 Look at your second sentence. I’m not being retarded for grappling with the actual problem, which is making you choose a button. I agree, if the question were “do you want a bunch of people to die?” the answer is no.

OK I think I'm done. I believe the exchange below summarizes much of the conversation. (Note: I'm not even saying Red is obvious anymore, largely because so many people are pushing Blue.)

@BobMurphyEcon You did kill the blue voters by voting red, or the blue voters didn’t kill themselves by voting blue. You don’t get your cake and eat it too. And, in my opinion, every red voter collaborated on taking an action that kills people en masse. That’s disgusting AND murder

@CovfefeAnon Wrong, idk how every red voter gets it backwards. Someone will always pick red and someone will always pick blue. By selecting red you are choosing to put yourself above an empathetic person who understands the problem, and ironically deserve the fate you assign to others.

This twitter classic "red button / blue button" [everyone who picks blue dies unless more than 50% do; everyone who picks red lives] question is cursed but we've learned a lot about people since it went around on the timeline the last time First to get this out of the way - there is zero actual reason to push blue - none - there is no "payoff to cooperation" being modeled since the payoff on offer - not dying - is the same for both choices. The only rational reason to pick blue is that you *hope* less than 50% of people pick blue so you can end your life and escape the person who is putting you in contrived hypotheticals for his own amusement With that out of the way - what we've learned in the 2 years since this hit the timeline the first time is that many, many people are simply next token predictors and when they see this example they say they will pick the "cooperative" choice (which isn't actually that!) We have also learned that when confronted with the stupidity of this position, they will simply costlessly double down and "argue" about it forever rather than admit error Really, the question is extremely revealing

@LionKimbro @CovfefeAnon The problem shouldn’t change dramatically. What changes is your logic for reality overrides your hope for a better world.

@MeatyouAU @SoyZetaDeZorro @ItsRobbAllen @PBanpoys @AlastairGrayson Blue goes for our instincts as a species and red promotes narcissism a well known plague on humanity. Blue is our pact tactics think of other people and red is “as long as I survive no one else matters,” suicidal apathy will destroy humanity

New Trolley problem has arrived, only it's dumber. Pres Red - 100% chance of living. Blue - Non-zero chance of dying. It has nothing to do with empathy for others unless you're stuck on suicidal empathy, which is YOUR fault, not mine. There is ZERO logical reason for ANYONE to press blue. NONE.

@DSrlaagyoenr @justalexoki Wrong, logically someone will always pick blue and someone will always pick red. Picking red is effectively saying “I will gladly kill up to 50% of the population if I lived until tomorrow,” which is incredibly short sighted from a societal perspective

@justalexoki This whole debate is just morals vs logic. People think picking blue is morally correct because it’s “saving others”. Logic tells you no one needs to be saved in the first place if everyone understands picking red means guaranteed living.

@KorySingle76283 @JohnFortnite124 @justalexoki You’re kinda dumb, someone is always going to pick blue and someone is always going to pick red, that’s a forced assumption. Only by picking blue can both of these people survive, logically there is no good reason to pick red considering the 0 death threshold is higher

@JohnFortnite124 @justalexoki The answer is because death is only introduced by picking blue. If any single person picks blue, they then inherently force others to pick blue as a means to save their life when they could've just picked red and skipped the shenanigans. Picking red does what blue does but better
