My mother set a trap for my brother’s wife at the dinner table.
It did not go as planned.
She waited until she was comfortable. Fed. Relaxed.
Then she attacked.
“Ever since you people got married he doesn’t go to church like before.”
The table went silent. My brother suddenly became very interested in his food. The kind of interest that means please God do not let this involve me.(note that my brother was never the churchy type and my mom knew that)
His wife chewed. Swallowed. Wiped her mouth. Then replied playfully
“Mama, If raising a boy was hard, what do you think raising a man feels like.”😊
My mother blinked.
My brother coughed.
Someone’s spoon hit a plate.
Everyone Ate silently through the Meal😂

Update: On Sallah day, she came to our house and started again, telling my daughter she's not fine. I spoke up firmly and said I don't like it, that I don't want my daughter growing up with low self-esteem just because she's darker than her siblings.
She got upset, shouted that it was only play, that the child is always jovial with her so that's her way of joking. I told her again that I don't like it. She then acted like I disrespected her and started playing the victim.
Thankfully, her husband stepped in and told her that since I don't like the "joke," she should stop. After that, she didn't talk to me or the kids for the rest of the day.
Honestly, I don't care I'm just glad I stood up for my daughter.

Hi mamas I need your honest advice pls... My husband's uncle's wife has this habit of comparing my kids looks. Everytime we see, she jokingly calls my second daughter "Omo ti o fine" (the one that's not beautiful) while praising my first and last born. This has been going on for a long time. I wanted to confront her straight up, but my hubby says "just ignore her, she's like that." And none of her own girls even come close to my baby's glow and beauty yet she keeps doing this nonsense. I refuse to let anyone plant low self-esteem in my baby girl. Mamas, what would you do? Tell her to stop? or I should keep ignoring?

Ramaḍān – Day 29
Yā Allah, we have come to the end of this month, and we don’t know if we will meet another.
Do not let this Ramaḍān be a witness against us. Let it be in our favour.
Yā Allah, accept from us even the little we have done, forgive us for what we failed to do, and do not return us to our old ways after this month.
Hold our hearts firm upon You, and let the light of this Ramaḍān remain with us even after it is gone.
Āmīn.

Ramaḍān – Day 28 Yā Allah, do not let us finish this Ramaḍān except that You have accepted it from us. Do not reject any of our acts of worship. Do not look at how imperfectly we performed them; look instead at how merciful and generosity You are. Accept our fasting, our prayers, our recitation, and our duʿāʾ. Grant us the goodness and rewards of this month. If You do not accept it from us, no one will. We come to You as Your humble servants, seeking Your mercy and acceptance. Āmīn.
