They start to believe they're the problem. They stop pushing. They learn to play small. And the system absorbs them. The ones who don't get absorbed eventually leave. They start their own thing. They build their own system. And the original organization wonders why all their best people go start companies that compete with them. The pattern is so predictable it's almost boring. Protect your talented people from the system or the system will protect itself from them. Most organizations choose the system. And then they wonder why they're full of people who are competent but not remarkable.

Nothing exposes a broken system faster than watching talented people try to succeed inside it. Ideas get blocked. Energy gets drained. Ambition slowly dies. Not because the people are not good enough. Because the system punishes anyone who refuses to play small.
