I would like to see some spinoffs but done with respect and actually accurate to the lore and world Tolkien built. The only reason the movies worked so well is that at their core I feel like they stay pretty true to his message. Even though a lot of things are changed and not accurate the core of the story is there, small good beats overwhelming evil

The problem with bringing in Colbert is that he is ideologically captured. He, along with Philippa Boyens, won't be able to keep personal politics out of the film. The same is true for most of the Tolkien "scholars" out there if they were to be brought on.
Also, no one said: "Get someone who will respect the lore." What Tolkien fans were saying was "Cease making adaptations."
We are tired of watching beloved stories get butchered by talentless ideologues.
