@thaktonhemlock @bob_coggins @risteardc1 @sligococo @Marie_Casserly Word or not, we get you! Thinking thin doesn't cut it! On the way back from Strandhill the other day one of us diverted by Gibraltar, Finisklin , Ballast Quay & Custom House Quay. But Ballast Quay is busy on weekdays with cars & hgvs. Later this year SH Road should become 30kph

Would it be possible to get the cycle lanes out and back to Strandhill and Rosses Point cleaned/swept? @sligococo A lot of debris/loose stones in parts. @Marie_Casserly @SligoCycling

@risteardc1 @sligococo @Marie_Casserly Yes we noticed yesterday its particularly bad inbound either side of Scarden Cemetery, lots of gravel. And a member from Strandhill who cycled to town on Friday made the same remark.

@risteardc1 @sligococo @Marie_Casserly @SligoCycling Would it be possible to get Cycle Lanes out and back to Strandhill?!?! What we have at the moment is not fit for the purpose of safe cycling for road users of all ages. It's simply spots of paint on the broken edges of a road of varying widths.

The video asks for infrastructure so people have a choice how to make short trips. We hope @sligococo members support that. In Mullingar a councillor said "This notion that we'll all be on bikes is a load of bloody nonsense". That is not the purpose of active travel networks

@bulfincycle Hold on a minute you cosseted midlanders! Atlantic you say? We here in the North West associate Atlantic weather with rain as well as wind, so we might pass on the 'ideal weather for cycling' Better than storms, granted!

@GerHerbert1 @HouseHoxton @IrelandAMVMTV Correct! And even with the later changes unless your former primary road has been redesignated as an L (Local) road which is unusual (though I am aware of one stretch of the former N4 where this has been done) it wont change to 60.

@DerekSynnott @SophieMcDLaw But you can't have a world class public transport system unless you make space for it. Nobody is cutting off the ability to use cars but if we dont restrict cars where will the bus lanes & tram tracks go?

@SophieMcDLaw Sadly our public transport system is appalling. We need to improve it. But we shouldn’t cut off the ability to use cars etc u til such time that a world class public transport system is in place and ready for use

@davidtobin100 @cyclistie Yes, unfortunately there is often a disconnect between a party's national policy & local actions on the ground. It's great to have manifestos analysis though as a reference point. Next step to see the positive policies in a PfG

I know politicians in the better scoring parties who have railed against active travel infrastructure and I know ones in the lower cohort who completely get the health, climate and liveability benefits cycling brings. Use this week to talk to your candidates.

🧵 Really interesting analysis on cycling commitments from all the parties in #GE24 from the Irish Cycling Campaign. We’re at the end of a govt term that has been transformational in many ways for active and public transport. What’s next?
Irish Cycling Campaign@cyclistie

Irish Cycling Campaign has unveiled the Strong, Mediocre & Weak Parties in Active Travel as per the Manifestos for General Election 2024. @greenparty_ie @labour @SocDems scored significantly higher than other parties See our analysis and results below. cyclist.ie/2024/11/irish-…

@OceanFmIreland Do the candidates support a Sligo Coastal Mobility/Sligo Seaway safe segregated from other traffic cycle route between Strandhill and Rosses Point & if elected will they lobby for funding ?

Last year, some people were - rightly - annoyed that the fencing for a Limerick city Christmas tree had clipped a foot or two from the O’Connell St bike lane at Thomas St. Well, here’s the bike lane at Penneys where this year’s tree is going. They’ve blocked off ALL of it.

Is there anything to be said for a "tourist bus route" during the summer months talking in #Sligo most scenic spots/walks-Dooney Rock, Hazelwood, Lisadell, Union Wood, Glencar wf,Devils Chimney, Etc? ATM tourists have no option other than car to visit these areas. @Marie_Casserly

@Marie_Casserly @SligoCycling @FreelanceWebDev @bob_coggins When I was a teenager me & a mate cycled from Cartron to Bundoran. We underestimated the time it would take & we only had about 30mins there to play the slots. We got back b4 dark & our legs were burning for days afterwards :-) Told my mum after & she just called me an eejit. 😁

@lehsacmurd @GavinGray @Marie_Casserly @LocalLinkDSL That's great if so. We know re Lissadell but not about a bus on the Dromahair to Sligo Road. Sligo Walks FB account is doing a good job of promoting walks that can be accessed by Public Transport . All visitor attractions should do it, eg LL passes the door of Grange Sheepdogs
