Instead, they trick users with phishing and fake support messages, pretending to be from Signal or WhatsApp. They claim there is a problem with the account and ask for verification codes, PINs, or registration codes. If shared, the hackers gain full control and can read all messages. They sometimes also send fake QR codes or links to secretly link their own device to the victim’s account.
