I mean Pandolfo runs a great program but he's limited by NCAA rules in how these athletes can prepare. I think Eiserman's ceiling is higher and Eklund will likely full-time sooner. Eklund has a terrific upside. But he's not going to score 40 at the NHL level. Eiserman, if he works hard and maximizes his potential, I could see as a 40G 70-80P player on the wing for 14 years. The shot is just that good and his ability to understand defenses and find soft spots is that good. And he's much better on the rush that people talk about and that's the difference maker. He can shoot when he's moving.

#isles I caught up on some Eklund film (I've been following Eiserman most closely this year) and watched his AHL debut (twice, lol). I think we really have a gem here. The closest comparison I have for him that's recent is a player like Marchand. The motor is there. He is very pesty on the puck and he does not hesitate to dog players. He's not the same trash talker, obviously, but his game is extremely chippy for a guy whose biggest downside is size and very, very skilled. Like Marchand he's a slightly above average skater but makes up for it with elite hockey IQ. And like Marchand he can operate in a phonebooth with the puck and bigger defenders hanging all over him. I get why people have him as the #1 in our system. I still think Eiserman's ceiling is actually higher but Eiserman hasn't had pro-level coaching (I cannot speak highly enough of the way they are teaching systems in the SHL and preparing players in that league. It's unreal. Seriously, if you want to watch extremely high-quality team game hockey you watch SHL hockey.). He's going to have an adjustment. Eklund might arrive sooner.

#isles I was completely fine with missing the playoffs before the season started. I figured it'd be a bit of a reset. New GM. Missed out the year before. But I'll be crushed if we miss the playoffs now, lol. Especially because I feel like this team is starting to find itself with the new additions and Sorokin out of his mind.

@islanders_takes I agree with most of your takes, not all of them (e.g. i'm much lower than Mayfield than you). BUT intellectual honesty and calling accurate balls and strikes is most important trait - at least to me- when we're all right or wrong. So Bravo for that.

#isles Also, calling myself out here. I'm extremely critical of longterm goalie contracts. I predicted that Sorokin would continue to decline, particularly as the team declined, and the fans would turn on him. I was wrong. He's been tremendous. Up until a few weeks ago I thought Vasilevsky deserved the Vezina and now I believe that Sorokin does. I've never been happier to be wrong. Ilya has gotten more rest this year and clearly is working with a goalie coach he trusts more. He's been much steadier this year. And that steadiness is bolstered by his flashes of brilliance - the kind of athletic, highly mobile saves that some goalies just cannot make. I ate shit on my take here. And if we get through this stretch and end up in a playoff position he is a huge part of why this team has succeeded.

#isles Losing Pulock is as close to a disaster as you can get headed into this stretch of games. But losing TDA turns lethal. Very few teams could absorb losing #1 and #2 out of the right side. But the Islanders certainly can't.
