Muirfield is looking great this afternoon. Alas I’m walking the dog rather than playing! The 2028 Open venue is yet to be announced and we’re overdue a return to East Lothian. This is the latest it’s ever been for an Open venue to be announced so we should know soon.

What is your plan for drinks if you get a hole in one? Or if you got one, what did you do? Tradition says you buy drinks. For me, when my day comes, here is my plan: Public course: A round for the whole bar! Private: Open bar. Let’s close the place down! Why the difference? Private clubs generally have a culture. It’s expected and it’s an unwritten agreement. (Sometimes written, actually.) At a public course, few will buy everyone a drink.

@MattFitz94 Wish they’d publish average time for rounds by player for the season. Based on that list, how about the slowest 10 within the top 100 of the FedEx lose their cards automatically and the quickest 10 between places 101 and 150 on Fedex get a full card. Similar for Korn Ferry.

@JohnMcLennan4 Golf on any course is a good day out no doubt. All I’ll say is that when you play a great course and you have to think as well as walk, swing and shoot the breeze it brings so much more to the party. Golf is played in the mind as much as it is played with your hands…

Do green complexes make golf courses? My take; I’ve never played a world class golf course with average green complexes. This is Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale, NY. Difficult questions make interesting golf courses and Tillinghast was a master of asking those questions of a golfer.

@AbbeydaleGreens BTW, absolutely love that trio of bunkers to the right of 5 (now under the trees). The risk / reward of hitting it up there and either getting away with it, or having the shot from hell coming out of them towards a firm green must have been 👌.

trees rnd tees and greens in autumn/winter 😞🙈🤢 no airflow no light ann covered in leaves everyday! lovely for disease 🙈 blow, cut and spray greens, holes, divoting and bunkers, then loads of blowing again, waiting on parts for collector 👍🏻 #happyfriday 🤣
