On pronunciation:
“The name is Psmith. P-smith”
“Peasmith, sir?”
“No, no. P-s-m-i-t-h. I should explain to you that I started life without the initial letter, and my father always clung ruggedly to the plain Smith. But it seemed to me that there were so many Smiths in the world that a little variety might well be introduced. Smythe I look on as a cowardly evasion, nor do I approve of the too prevalent custom of tacking another name on in front by means of a hyphen. So I decided to adopt the Psmith. The p, I should add for your guidance, is silent, as in phthisis, psychic, and ptarmigan. You follow me?”
“Y-yes, sir.”
“You dont think, he said anxiously, that I did wrong in pursuing this course?”
“N-no, sir!”

one thing I do in the gym is I take a very small dumbbell and walk around with it, bend over to pick it up with suboptimal form, do weird motions with it in general, to test for weak spots
I *think* this helps with something indirectly related to weird injuries when lifting kids
babies are wiggly and don't tolerate Only Good Form

@GiffLasta is great. You've finally baptised the manosphere's useful ideas into a christian frame. Lots of ppl have tried, you're the first I've seen who does it excellently -- w/out either going effeminate or toxic! Some favourite threads:

@GiffLasta i mean not wrong. maslow is dumb and everyone needs more victor frankel.
ppl think you are motivated by food and water, but we are most motivated by Meaning and Purpose.
English

Does this mean that I hate Maslow’s needs hierarchy?
It might…
Giff Lasta@GiffLasta
“Wants” are more fundamental than “needs.” “I need food.” Really? For what? “I need food if I want to live longer than a few months. I want to live another 50 years.” Ah. Now we’re getting somewhere.

@goblinodds @paytreearch yes this book is great!
quick psa, read the original 1936 ed; later versions were bowdlerised. like the original had a whole section on home life, which was removed in the 80s edition.
prob cause it committed the great crime of Noticing the diff between men and women
English

@paytreearch oh that's fairly charming although kinda sends up my spidey sense ("bold of you to assume i'd do the same"). but yeah i see the value there
English

ep 2773 of the @ThomasEWoods podcast was really good. had incidentally a great tidbit on striking up good conversations at conferences. useful for networking. ask:
who are you
where did you come from
what do you do
what do you most hope to learn
English

@Tobiasbuildss @JosiahWittrock i look forward to ai finally making ed tech not suck!

a warning from the good doctor. he says the main blocker to this is numbness. undisciplined people are often numb people. you numbed the shame and the anxiety, cause your life wasn't going anywhere and feeling that was unbearable. but emotions are a package deal. the resolve went numb too.
either you feel everything or you feel nothing at all.
so if your days are grey and discipline won't take, the problem is upstream of willpower entirely. un-numb first. then stoke.
English

everyone tells you to be disciplined. nobody tells you how. i watched a fantastic video from @HealthyGamerGG that actually answers the "how". and it's way better than "just build habits." a🧵
