@thinkdefence How about waiting to see whether CDS’s recently acquired command over the three services pans out? Single service chiefs are now actually subordinate to CDS following Defence Reform.

Unlike most on here, I have an open mind on a single force structure. But what is the problem we are fixing, what are the efficiency savings and operational benefits, and what are the timelines and costs to get there. Doubters need to do more than harrumph and say 'but Canada'
Andrew Neil@afneil

Maybe you’re right. One combined military structure and command has been such a disaster for the IDF, hasn’t it? UK military obviously in much better shape 🤣

@Keith_Bredrin @NatashaMDay @SpamInTheCan @FawkesHandles Perhaps she spotted an issue, came up with a cracking idea to resolve it and then developed it for the benefit of personnel across all three services rather just moan about it in the block or Naafi bar. Any JNCO who can achieve what she has deserves an MBE at the very least!

This International Women’s Day, I’m reflecting on my 12 year career and celebrating every woman who has been underestimated, dismissed, or told to “know her place.” Here’s to the women who were told they couldn’t. And did it louder, sharper, and better than anyone expected.

Let us be absolutely clear on one thing: one government or another was bound to be caught with pants down around ankles over Akrotiri. It was painfully obvious to everyone (but those taking the decisions, evidently) that it was only matter of time. It's been years in the making

@JodeeDubber @HannahIamthest1 Wives got well and truly stitched in the BAOR days, very few opportunities for reasonably paid employment and pressured into providing welfare support. Hardly surprising most spouses now choose to stay put and the service person weekly commutes.

I've swept, mopped and bumpered, polished, bulled, dusted, litter picked the universe, been lemoned, jiffed and buggered about, fun starts, fun stops, paraded for the parade before the parade, marched up, down and back again, got on the bus, got off the bus, stagged on, knocked off, Egyptian PT, endured beastings , jailings, long stands, kitchen punishment, eaten an egg banjo, numerous extras, pulled up sandbags, swung lanterns, frequented the trailer of knowledge, naked bar, dance of the flaming arsehole, dambusters, garage footy, been squared away, mess rugby, speak fluent abbreviation and acronym, 1033, 1098, 1157, compo, ROPs, buckshee, basha, dohbie, bevy, champagne breakfast, walk of shame ..... and done a little bit of soldiering as well.... and loved every minute!!! 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

The GAF have 52 A400's. The RAF must be flying their C-17's and A400's to death.
Airbus Defence@AirbusDefence

The 52nd #A400M has been delivered to the German Air Force! This military transporter is a true powerhouse, boasting 44,000 hp from its four turboprop engines. With a top speed of up to 750 km/h, the A400M has a maximum range of over 8,700 km. At full payload of 37 tonnes, it can cover more than 3,300 km, and even take off and land on unpaved runways.

@Kirky_Kirkwood Mr Cleary was the AcSM when we were on SMC 31, I had an amusing encounter with him in a Sandhurst village pub about a month after I commissioned whilst some of my mates made a hasty departure and he graciously accepted a pint intended for one of them!

@SempleBrian @Kirky_Kirkwood Not certain when sword carrying extended beyond JUOs but by 1982 we had the non-university graduate Officer Cadets on tha Standard Military Course carrying rifles on Academy Parades and the post-university Student Officers on the Standard Graduate Course carrying swords (1/2).

@Simmerit1 @HMNBDevonport @RoyalNavy If she is anything like the female 1* officers that I come across at work this is not likely to be a DEI appointment; as I have said elsewhere she is an engineer so may even be better suited to running a site that maintains and repairs warships than a Royal Marine officer.

@noah_nonsense @HMNBDevonport @RoyalNavy What is woke about putting an officer who has spent her career maintaining/repairing ships in charge of a naval base that does just that? It could be argued that she is better qualified for the role than a Royal Marine!

@DuncanGilm41333 @HMNBDevonport @RoyalNavy The Cdre’s full name is used the first time it is mentioned as is the Brigadier’s, normal military writing habits to use full details first time and abbreviate/shorten when repeated.

Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan…They stayed a little back, off the front lines”
