US wages are barely keeping pace with inflation: Since 2020, average weekly earnings adjusted for inflation have increased just +3.7%. In other words, inflation has wiped out most income gains for Americans. This comes as the costs of living in the US have significantly increased. Since 2020, utility gas service prices have jumped +56%, electricity prices +41%, while home insurance is up +14%. At the same time, used car and truck prices have soared +30%, while motor vehicle insurance is up +56%. By comparison, nominal wages have risen +31.0% over the same period. Affordability remains a major issue for American households.
