@SparkleApplePie

I put numbers into quickbooks and call myself an accountant. (This is wrong, I haven't used quickbooks in like 9 years now.)

@whyrusomadlol @PardonMyTake If you just take out all the losses, the Seahawks are undefeated! If you just ignore the interceptions, Sam Darnold was perfect! If you just don't count the years the Seahawks didn't win the Super Bowl, the Seahawks are the only Super Bowl winners!

@VanSky_fam Oh yeah, I'm just commenting on the slew of influencers and "experts" coming out as if the Dodgers were hiding something under the books. People are legit thinking it's some sort of conspiracy.

Let’s see if I have this right, the Dodgers “secret” TV deal has been in place for 14 years but wasn’t a problem until they won back to back chips?

@ChadMoriyama I mean, Freddie is getting closer and closer to 40. Mookie I think could bounce back because I think he never properly recovered from that weird stomach bug he got early last season.

@rationalyankee Yeah, and I don't think a salary cap is going to fix the issues of some small market teams being entirely non-competitive. There are owners who clearly just do not give a shit about winning if it comes at the expense of maximizing their margins.

The craziest part of the fans starting to turn against the players is that this entire problem is stems from erratic behavior by the owners. Owners in some large markets are spending to levels that nobody thought possible. Owners in some small markets are not even trying to disguise their apathetic attitude toward winning. The players are just taking the best deals that are offered to them and somehow fans are ready to side with ownership as the next CBA negotiations kick off. In reality, this entire negotiation is going to be about how to get all the owners to stop abusing the system one way or the other.

@rationalyankee Players taking the best deal and the Dodgers taking advantage of the system has turned the fans against the players

Not really. The Dodgers have to secure roughly the net present value of any deferred salary with safe assets when the deal is signed. They can’t just push money to the future and “hope” they’ll have it later. That means hundreds of millions of dollars in ultra-safe assets need to be available right now in order to defer all this money. They’re just crazy rich. No other way to say it.
DennyBunt@fat_denny

@rationalyankee Is there anyway these contracts that are getting deferred are gonna hurt the dodgers in the future, like they owe 1.6 billion from 2035-2045 are they not gonna be able to sign players then im too stupid to understand this

@Michael_Fabiano I feel like this misunderstands what a "casual" fan is. The casual fan watches baseball occasionally, wants to see stars and home runs, and could not give a F about much else. The fans who bought in a bit more but aren't addicted may be lost. The casuals will multiply.

MLB is going to lose the casual fan, especially in the NL. Why watch regular-season games if we know one team will likely win 100-plus games and be in the World Series every year?

Glad to know the Fed can just hire the fanciest law firm on a whim when every other government agency probably has rules mandating the use of 5% of one staff lawyer paid in clamshells whose full time job is managing railroad and canal pensions.
Nick Timiraos@NickTimiraos

Powell had hired powerhouse DC firm Williams & Connolly as outside counsel before the DOJ subpoenas arrived—a sign he has been ready for whatever turns the White House pressure campaign could take. Powell hasn't sought a fight over the Fed's institutional autonomy, but Sunday's extraordinary two-minute video statement suggests he won't shy away from one either. wsj.com/economy/centra…

the funniest part of this is the delusion that UK has any sort of “empire” anymore. dawg it’s not legal to build an apartment there anymore and Poland’s about to outpace their GDP

@jayhaykid The funnier thing is that if you actually look at a list of owners sorted by wealth, because they list Mark Walters individually as the Dodgers' owner, technically Detroit has a richer owner than LA. Of course this is silly because of Guggenheim, but still funny.

We know our roster needs additions in order to maximize the window we have with the game’s best pitcher, but also if we are forced to pay this pitcher an appropriate amount of money we won’t be able to add around him and thus won’t be able to capitalize on the window Nice

How is it that Anthony Davis is a top 75 player--- yet couldn't be the best player on a team with a 40yr old in LA.... and now can't be the best player on a team with a 19yr old in Dallas???

Cooper Flagg leads the Mavericks in total points, rebounds, assists, and steals. He is on pace to join Michael Jordan and Victor Wembanyama as the only rookies in @NBA history to lead their team in four (out of five) major statistical categories.
