@Schoolofsurg Congratulations Jon. I find myself increasingly jealous of colleagues who have finished the course (largely) unscathed! It’s really sad but I suspect the feeling must be more of a bullet dodged than a quiet satisfaction of a job well done.

Last ever on call done and handled over! Cannot begin to express what a relief that is. Lately it has felt like walking a tightrope, with no safety net and someone at either sawing slowly through the rope.

Not content with launching one award today, we are delighted to announce that applications are also open for the Averil Mansfield Travelling Fellowship! This award of up to £2500 is open to ASGBI members who are non-consultant doctors and supports visits to centres of excellence in emergency general surgery (EGS) across the UK and worldwide. Deadline - 28th February.

Big upgrade to the award this year! Definitely worth applying - especially now it can be completed from anywhere in the world. Seems unfair consultants are excluded!

The entire conversation on robotic surgery is too polarizing… the critics don’t use the 🤖at all and the supporters feel like it needs to be used for everything IMO there needs to be more robot ‘centrists’ out there who will say it’s good for some things and not others.

It took years to recognize the phenomenon of pseudo-meetings and pseudocommittees. In these meetings, there is almost no hope of real input, as the decisions have already been made. In reality, your purpose is to fill the chairs so that 'the process' appears more legitimate.

A lot of ‘critical views of safety’ look good in a photo but weren’t obtained safely because of indiscriminate buzzing around the key structures. One of the main things you’re looking for is this anomaly - the R posterior sectoral duct inserting distally into the cystic duct.
