I'm going to say this only once: I heard Walter Mondale supporting Democrats issues "Prophecies of Doom" about the national debt since Reagan's first term. We have a massive debt because we are too "generous" -- the Democrat Party loves to give away tax revenue in exchange for political support. Any fair evaluation of the debt shows it is a function of spending, not insufficient revenue, and spending is dominated by the social welfare state. There have been many constructive suggestions offered by Boomers for reducing the level of social welfare spending, but the Dems will have none of it.

@shipwreckedcrew 40 trillion in national debt...

The "Deal" with Iran is announced within days of Trump coming back from China. China more than any country in the world needs Iranian oil to flow out of the Gulf. There were no obvious "Agreements" that came out of the trip. But I suspect there was an agreement behind doors that Trump would allow oil to flow to China in exchange for China forcing Iran to allow all other commerce thru the Gulf. What Iran says at this point is meaningless -- this is a quid pro quo between Trump and Xi about their mutual needs. That will start immediately, but the more contentious issues will be resolved over time. But Xi knows that Trump can cut-off oil to China any time he wants to -- he can simply block the Strait again AFTER the other cargo has cleared. There are workarounds for most of what the Gulf states need to go in and out. There is only one way for Iranian oil to get to Chinese ports.

She spoke before she had any actual understanding of what was in the investigative files. There was an exhibit -- under seal -- admitted in Maxwell's trial. It was known to be a collection of names. Maxwell told Blanche what it was and how it came to be assembled. The Plaintiff's lawyers suing Epstein's estate for money long ago started calling this a "client list" because it furthered the narrative that was netting them millions in settlements. Because a bunch of idiot right wing "influencers" adopted the nomenclature of that narrative because it drove clicks and views, the incoming Trump 2.0 went along without really knowing what it was talking about -- most prominently former AG Bondi.

@shipwreckedcrew Bondi was a complete IMBECILE for not telling the truth at first. She kept promising bombshell after bombshell - now Epstein's CRIMINALS are pretending to be heroes. Todd Blanche should RIP OFF THE MASK. Just make statements about this and end the Epstein SHAM. JESUS CHRIST.

@EnghTanner @posta_octavian It’d be a victory for “religious freedom” in the same way that the US government deeming SSRIs to be Halal would be a victory for “religious freedom”

@SpludD @posta_octavian There were already liberal Protestant denominations performing gay marriages by the time it was legalized. If anything, gay marriage was a victory for religious freedom.

Opposing gay marriage was/is one of the biggest conservative Ls ever. Legalising it has: - raised the prestige of monogamous long-term marriages among gay men - made being gay less of a clandestine secret culture - integrated gay men as productive members of society with many positive effects So everything conservatives *should* want came from its legalisation, despite it having been something they opposed.
Hunter📈🌈📊@StatisticUrban

There are early signs that monogamy is on the upswing once again, even amongst groups that are currently less monogamous than average.

@putain817 @posta_octavian I don’t think that’s a very hard argument to make. And to go a step further, I think most people who don’t agree with gay marriage would agree that the govt shouldn’t have any authority over granting marriages, whether straight or gay

@SpludD @posta_octavian If you want marriage to be a “religious institution” then the government shouldn’t be involved at all. And that includes straight marriages

@KenanPerry @posta_octavian You will find these claims backed by most public polling. It’s been this way basically since the 70’s. The affairs of other people’s personal lives doesn’t really matter to the average person However, altering rules closely associated with religion touches a nerve

@KenanPerry @posta_octavian “Lots of people” think the earth is flat. Doesn’t mean it’s a potent political force. Your argument also assumes a type of black and white thinking that doesn’t really exist. Most people don’t give two shits about ppl being gay. But their religion is sacred.

@posta_octavian And exactly what point are you trying to make? I'm saying Americans get upset because marriage is a religious institution. Youre telling me the French had a process that explicitly allowed unions without the religious component attached So--civil unions Explain what im missing

When you get right to it, "black voters" are the toys of Democrats. You don't hear about "black representation" when there's a seat to be taken. None of these people are serious. When will white people wake up? All the racist crap they yell at you is FAKE.

@vaelor0 Life beginning at conception has no bearing on the concept of "age", because clearly things can age at different rates depending on different circumstances. Like saying "Wow, this acorn is 15 years old, so why isn't it a 12 foot tree?"

Why do you call them "new"? The vote total in the primary on Tuesday was right around 105,000 combined. The vote total in the general election in 2024 was 280,000. Yes, more voters turn out for a POTUS year general election. Those voters are there all the time. The real mystery is how Massie received 278,000 votes in the 2024 election, but only 47,500 of those voters came out for him this week when his political life was at stake -- fewer than 1 out of 5.
Mandy Arthur@mandyarthur

Hey @Grok, purely hypothetical, what is the *statistical probability* that 52,000 NEW voters suddenly appear in a primary and vote OVER 90% AGAINST the incumbent? One sentence max.
