ChatGPT made this graphic for me to illustrate the pump price of petrol... The fuel duty is higher than the crude oil component And then we pay VAT including on the fuel duty!! When @RachelReevesMP talks about fuel profiteering she needs to look in the mirror @griffitha @ClaireCoutinho

@TheSimonEvans @Babygravy9 I can’t get the tone of voice and the looks on their faces from “he lodged 9 FOI requests” It was like they’d said, “he’s robbed 9 church collection plates”

@Babygravy9 The weird (?) thing is the first series was a pretty good dystopian drama about the potential for the State to weaponise developing deep fake tech etc to manipulate evidence and secure convictions that were unsafe (but sorta morally warranted).

@pegobry_en Reminds me of this exchange. Cant believe it’s 14 years ago. You don’t need to scratch very deeply beneath the surface with these people to find the most deranged ideas about human relations . youtu.be/wjVDYPAuRh0?si…

Everyone assumes this picture of Buttigieg is him eating a chicken wing, and that's because he's biting in a way to engage his "rip-the-flesh-from-the-bone" front teeth, so we fill in "chicken wing" to make it make sense. But what he is actually eating is a small piece of a cinnamon roll, and our brains just can't comprehend biting into a small piece of dough that way. It's like an alien took over a human body and is unfamiliar with the subtleties of how it works.

Is anyone else starting to think that as a middle class parent your job in Britain now is to either get yourself into the super rich, or get yourself into the benefits class Being anywhere else is increasingly uncomfortable and rare
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Exclusive from @MaxKendix Rachel Reeves is expected to limit an energy bill bailout to people on benefits after warning that giving support to every household because of the Iran war would be irresponsible and unaffordable The Times has been told that the planned support will be directed instead at about six million people who claim benefits such as universal credit and pension credit While Reeves has asked about a potential “income threshold” to support lower-earning households, officials have said they are unlikely to be able to develop the system in time. Treasury sources emphasised that several options were being looked at but that no decisions had been taken Officials have identified several barriers, including the fact that HM Revenue & Customs records the income of individuals, while an energy bailout would have to focus on households. A project to link up the information started in January and was due to take more than a year Reeves will therefore have little choice but to give support to people claiming benefits, using the warm home discount, which reduces electricity bills for poorer households by £150, as the model for the scheme “The methods of targeting are imperfect,” one government source said. But another said there was “a lot of defeatism” about what systems could realistically be introduced in time. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

'Ethnic minorities do not feel comfortable in the countryside' is a great example of asymmetrical multiculturalism in action. I personally do not feel comfortable, or at home, in Slough, Luton or Southall. They're not unsafe, but they are alien and not in any way 'home'. Considering that places like these are growing, while the countryside, traditionally conceived of, is shrinking, shouldn't we take steps to make me more comfortable?

🚨🇬🇧 NATIONAL TRUST DIRECTOR SAYS ETHNIC MINORITIES DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE A National Trust director says ethnic minorities do not feel comfortable in the countryside because they do not know what to wear and do not know the countryside code. This is exactly the kind of mentality that turns everything into grievance, division and identity politics.

They could stop this. They locked us up & suspended our liberties for 2 years. The Tories could have stopped it; Labour could stop it. There isn't the will do it, there is no recognition that this is a national emergency because they don't recognise us a nation anymore.

I infiltrated a WhatsApp group used by Channel migrant gangs. They’re advertising weapons, love the Ayatollah and organise illegal crossings into Britain through multiple different routes. Will the authorities do anything to disrupt them?

The first time I abandoned a girlfriend in the mountains was an accident. We had an argument about something trivial, and she decided to go off on her own for a bit to cool down. I insisted she stick to the trail, but she said she didn’t need me mansplaining how to find her way in the woods. So I dropped it. How does one manage to get lost on a mountainside, anyway? You just walk downhill until you hit a switchback or reach the valley. Common sense stuff. Well, she managed it. When she didn’t turn up by nightfall, I contacted the ranger station and they set out to find her. By 1am, I got tired of waiting and drove home. They called the next morning to say they’d found her in a makeshift den she’d dug beneath a deadfall. She was naked, gone completely feral, her face painted with menstrual blood. A ranger tried to wrap a blanket around her shoulders, and she bit a golf ball-sized gobbet of flesh from his shoulder. So they sedated her and took her straight to the nearest hospital. That was three years ago and she still hasn’t recovered human language. Needless to say, I acquired a taste for it. I’m up to a baker’s dozen now, not counting the one that found her way back to the car before I could drive off. But you never forget your first. Sarah will always have a special place in my heart.

Goyslop advice of the week: I started to become very disappointed with McDonald's and Burger King. Another case of "everything is getting worse". Then I decided to order the classics over the "specials" again: Whoppers and Big Macs and you know what? They truly are the best.
