Bittersweet news: I hand off the reins to a new Chief Legal Officer at @Uniswap this week. I’ll remain at Uniswap full-time through November during this transition and then move to a part-time role at the company, focused on global public policy for DeFi. In late 2020, Hayden Adams hired me to be Chief Legal Officer as employee number 7. To me, hiring a CLO and executive so early reflected Hayden’s commitment to transparency & doing the right thing. I was attracted to the company’s impact & its mission. I wanted to help build an iconic company, from the ground floor, that would endure for decades and fundamentally fix many of the problems in our markets. Since then, the company has built an amazing leadership team (including my old friend, the great @Mclader), hired 100 people, launched v3 which has supported over a trillion in volume, and onboarded millions of users–with more, like v4, around the corner. Labs is in a great position. Since day one, we have had a clear view of the law. Our understanding was confirmed in the important legal victory for DeFi in Risley v. Uniswap, last year. We articulated our views in our Wells Response filed with the SEC in May. If the SEC does move forward with litigation, we expect to win. I’m excited to share that @MinarikLaw will take over the CLO role and will join the Uniswap Labs team this week. Most recently, Katherine was Deputy GC at Coinbase where she headed multiple teams including litigation and international legal. She has been the key architect of Coinbase’s litigation strategy, working for the fearless Paul Grewal. She’s also a former partner at one of the nation’s top litigation firms, Bartlit Beck. I am super excited to work together over the coming months, and she inherits a stellar legal team. I recruited her and trust her with taking over the legal reins for an amazing company I love –and with accelerating a technology that the world needs. I made this decision to prioritize spending more time with my young family, while still working on hard, thorny problems of the future of Defi policy. I’m grateful to everyone at Uniswap Labs and looking forward to our next chapters together! 💜🦄
