This is how you handle defeat. The trainer admits he got it wrong, acknowledges the winner. It's great they had a crack at the big race. No disgrace in being beaten and losing her unblemished record. Now they know she doesn't run 2000m. We move on.

Autumn Glow has come through yesterday’s run well, which has been pleasing to see. I’m disappointed for the horse, as she gave everything in the race, but I simply got her distance range wrong. I apologise to everyone for that — we’ll accept defeat graciously and come back better. We will now look ahead to the spring, where Autumn Glow can shine again. St Kilda will consider its legal options but is open to a challenge on Lance Collard’s suspension after the charge was upheld. The club is shocked and dismayed after testimony from two Frankston players was accepted over his denials. The AFL had asked for a 10 week ban, which is longer than the eight week Andrew Gaff ban. They are extremely worried about the toll this will take on a young indigenous player. A sanction hearing will be held next week. Then St Kilda will decide after a penalty is handed down. Lance Collard has been found guilty of using a homophobic slur towards an opponent. A sanction hearing will now be convened to determine the sanction at a date and time to be determined.
