In it's most basic form, a textbook pattern is setting up for numerous severe weather days in late April and early May... specifics are unknown, but folks in the plains should expect an awakening in about 10 days or so. Stay tuned for more details!

Today marks the 46th anniversary of a deadly tornado outbreak known as Terrible Tuesday. This massive tornado went through Wichita Falls killing dozens. Who remembers this day?

Chile wildfire helicopter crash: The Pilot survived… Insane footage of the Bell helicopter that went down while doing bucket work in Chile this afternoon. #wildfire #aviation #bomberos Clearly a mechanical failure. Earlier this summer, U.S. and Canadian transportation authorities grounded a portion of the Bell wildfire fleet after a fatal crash was caused by rotor straps that failed during flight. Very concerning.

Wild helicopter crash in the Hudson. Looks like it came apart mid-air, it’s missing the tail and rotor. How could that happen? 6 passengers all died 😢

*Severe weather to return April 20–May 6* I'm keeping tabs on a pattern that looks increasingly favorable for severe weather and tornadoes across parts of the Plains, Ozarks and Mid-South. This looks to be a bit farther west than the recent barrages of tornado storms. The overarching pattern favors a pocket of cold air, low pressure and spin to become established in the Rockies. The jet stream will likely dip, allowing that cold air to spill south over the western U.S. In the East, the jet stream will rise, with high pressure building into the Southeast. That will pump moisture northward across the central U.S. The air masses will battle it out over the central states – and, with moisture in place, that clash will brew storms. The jet stream will also be blowing overhead, adding the needed wind energy for severe thunderstorms and perhaps tornadoes. April and May are "that time of year" anyway. We've been quiet for the past few days, and likely will remain quiet until about April 17 or so. Thereafter, the pattern looks to flip to busier severe weather, with possible above-average tornado activity to round out the month and usher in May. @MyRadarWX

#OTD in 1979 was America's costliest single #tornado, at the time. ($400m in 1979 $) The 1-mile wide "Terrible Tuesday" twister tore through Wichita Falls, TX. 3,100 homes destroyed 42 killed, many of which tried to flee in vehicles despite warnings. youtube.com/watch?v=6bAOrm…
