I'm back soon with the baron of the Borders. We'll talk art and farms. And Bendy will tell us about the sleepers he's found lurking in the catalogues of art! In the words of @philipmould "This is the best podcast on the airwaves about art. Bendor Grosvenor - I salute you!"

@itvcycling @nedboulting @millarmind Me again. Name rhymes with Madame Tussaud. How much of the soundtrack is ‘augmented’ by French TV? Church bells probably, cows mooing maybe. Anything else?

@itvcycling How does the caravan get from one stage to another? Do they trundle along the autoroutes or are they transported on lorries?

@chrishawtree I often cycle through the inspiration for it, now on the Bristol to Bath cycle path. Still spooky at night.

To the Barn Theatre in Southwick for the opening of its production of Arnold Ridley's The Ghost Train which I had only seen as the 1941 film and as inspiration for Will Hay's Oh! Mr Porter (1937). The 1925 play has its own brio: it speeds up, rather like a train. A great time.

So, the arts are being cut. Ofcom has given up the arts quota. And the BBC survey about future programming doesn't mention it. You can complete the survey here. Please write 'keep art on the telly' in the 'anything else you want to tell us' box! END. bbc.co.uk/send/u193491675

Ping! An email from the BBC Director General himself, Tim Davie. He wants my opinion* on the Future of the BBC. 'Aha, I think, a chance to say; 'put the arts back on TV!' But alas... 1/🧵 *(Not just mine, it's a mass email).

Settle the kitchen feud : is “Chant” (as in football) a short nobody “a” even if you’re a Southerner? Surely no one says “charnt” outside the Royal Family?

@ContractorCalc take a look at the people working for the wealth tax campaigns. It's all PR people. No tax specialists. No economists. It's a political campaign, not an attempt to change the law.

WEALTH TAXES: Chancellor implies they are not going to happen. TSC - 2 days ago. Chancellor clearly prepped ready for the question. It's a classic example of how to say you won't put in a Wealth Tax without saying you won't put in a Wealth Tax. As far as she's concerned, she has already raised taxes on the Wealthy. The Wealth Tax campaigners are currently empty handed, making noise, but turned up to the party with no draft Wealth Tax legislation. As an experienced tax campaigner, who has had success, that is a massive schoolboy error. The hardest bit in campaigning is making noise and getting an audience. Then you plonk the solution on the table. To do the hard bit, and then have nothing in the locker, is frankly absurd. @DanielPriestley @garyseconomics

It's a gigantic Playlister @BBCRadio3 Where might we head from the Giant's Motif from Wagner's Das Rheingold? This is the bit where giant brothers Fasolt and Faffner demand Wotan's sister in law as payment for the building work they've done...

Yesterday President Donald Trump made comments amounting to the threat of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza. I’ve written to the Foreign Secretary calling on him to summon the US Ambassador and make clear how unacceptable these proposals are.

7pm tonight on BBC FOUR: #TheArchitectureTheRailwaysBuilt Series 1 Episode 1! @RadioTimes made it Choice of the Day back in 2020; they’ve done it again today! This review isn’t for me: it’s a team game: so it’s for Lucy Bailey, @JoshSwetnam @robdersley, all at what was @brownbobprod; and all who are listed in the credits. I hope if anyone watches it tonight it brings you joy, and shines a light on the remarkable places that we love. Next episode tomorrow, 7pm BBC Four; and it’ll be on iPlayer too.
