The backlash against AI data centers is not just justified -- it is inevitable. Communities across the United States are waking up to the hidden costs they bear while tech corporations reap the profits. These centers are being shoved into residential areas, driving up electricity bills, stealing water, and flooding neighborhoods with noise and light pollution.
The real agenda is profit and control, not progress. People are right to be furious. In Okeechobee County, Florida, a proposed $1.5 million data center campus was scrapped after unanimous opposition from local ranchers and residents, with the project receiving state funding that was ultimately rejected. This is not NIMBYism; it is self-defense. As I have long argued, the corporate playbook is to privatize gains and socialize costs, and data centers are the latest example of this predatory model.
Consumers are forced to subsidize data centers through higher utility rates, while their water pressure drops and property values plummet. Light and noise pollution rob families of sleep and peace, and water contamination from cooling systems is a documented health hazard.

@DonaAnaJones I thought for sure this must of been AI generated. I am stunned that a 66 year old woman that is the chief executive of a state would abandon any sense of dignity to dress that way at a public event. What an embarrassment!

@giannipov @JonathanTurley Bingo! Justice Jackson isn’t there to apply the law as intended, but to push a particular set of outcomes. This is what happens when activists are appointed to the courts.
English

A Supreme Court justice isn’t there to vent or “tell people how I feel”—the job is to interpret the law with discipline and consistency. When opinions start sounding like personal commentary, it risks blurring the line between legal reasoning and advocacy. That’s exactly the kind of shift that can erode confidence in the Court as an institution.
English

Justice Jackson recently said that “I have a wonderful opportunity to tell people in my opinions how I feel about the issues, and that’s what I try to do.” For some of her colleagues, that cathartic benefit is coming at too high a cost for the Court. jonathanturley.org/2026/05/05/bas…

I understand concerns about electricity costs, water use, etc., associated with data centers, but what I am seeing isn’t simply raising legitimate concerns. It’s just knee jerk negativity.

Racially drawn districts are clearly unconstitutional under the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Black and Hispanic and other minority candidates can win without such discrimination as Tim Scott has done in South Carolina, Bobby Jindal was governor of Louisiana, Marco Rubio won in Florida, Ted Cruz won in Texas, all red states, and unbelievably Barack Obama won two presidential elections. How did that happen in such a racist nation?
English

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

English

Drawing electoral districts to favor particular racial groups is both unconstitutional and immoral. Once again you are on the wrong side of an issue. Electoral districts drawn along racial lines are morally abhorrent and the only reason you favor them is that you believe it is politically advantageous to your party at this time. If the situation were reversed, I feel quite sure you would be praising the SCOTUS for its righteous decision. You seem to operate on a belief that the ends justify the means.
English

Today’s SCOTUS decision is an attack on equal representation, with devastating and far-reaching consequences that extend well beyond congressional maps. The Voting Rights Act is a fundamental promise of fair representation. But under this Supreme Court and Republicans in Congress, that promise is being undermined at every turn.
I will continue fighting to protect, defend, and strengthen our democracy and ensure that every American can use their voice.

You are such a fear monger. You know that they aren’t going to put mines in places that the general public uses for recreation. New Mexico needs jobs and economic development. Here’s my suggestion, give these public lands back to the states and let people in their states decide their best use.

@dowfornm It’s not hard to figure this out. Our state decided to follow the California energy model and we have gotten the same results that California got, higher costs and less reliability.
English

Rising utility costs in New Mexico aren’t accidental—they’re built into the progressive’s policies.
State laws like the Renewable Energy Act and Energy Transition Act mandate rapid shifts to renewables, early plant closures, and new infrastructure. At the same time, regulators guarantee utilities recover those costs—plus a profit—through your rates.
Bottom line: more mandates + guaranteed cost recovery = higher bills for New Mexicans.
