🚨 Jake Merrick Is Appearing at Events With a Recently Disbarred Attorney. Good Campaigning or a Liability? Republican gubernatorial candidate Jake Merrick has been appearing at data center petition drives alongside Ron Durbin and participating in interviews through Durbin’s Guerrilla Publishing platform. So who is Ron Durbin? Durbin is the former Tulsa attorney who was unanimously disbarred by the Oklahoma Supreme Court in October 2025. The Court described his disciplinary case as “almost in a class by itself.” After reviewing 20 counts of professional misconduct, the justices documented 115 individual rule violations. Much of the most serious misconduct involved Durbin’s public behavior. In one incident, he followed a lawyer and the lawyer’s client into a courthouse elevator while shouting profanity and threats, including telling them he was going to “kick your ass.” A sitting district judge was present during the encounter. In another episode, he aggressively confronted court staff and public officials in a courthouse hallway while filming, yelling, and making it difficult for people to leave the area. The Oklahoma Supreme Court found this pattern of confrontational, disrespectful, and threatening conduct toward judges, lawyers, and public employees violated multiple rules of professional conduct and undermined public confidence in the legal system. Since losing his law license, Durbin has shifted fully into content creation through Guerrilla Publishing. His YouTube channel and large Facebook following operate as a high-engagement media platform. The model is built around confrontation: aggressive audits, dramatic livestreams, profanity-laced attacks on public officials, and now heavy involvement in anti-data center activism, including collecting referendum and recall signatures while filming events for online distribution. It’s content designed to generate clicks, comments, shares, and engagement. Drama and outrage drive the algorithm. Merrick, meanwhile, is campaigning on faith, family, freedom, and “principle over politics.” He presents himself as a candidate who cannot be bought by special interests and who wants to bring integrity to state government. So the question becomes: Is appearing at events and giving interviews alongside a recently disbarred attorney whose record includes public threats in courthouses, and whose current brand is built on confrontation and controversy, smart campaigning? Or does it provide political opponents with easy ammunition? Optics matter.
