DRIPA is no longer just affecting permits and resource projects. Now it’s being used in court to argue Indigenous-owned private power producers should receive HIGHER electricity rates than everyone else. If the courts side with this argument, BC Hydro customers could be forced to pay more simply because of ownership structure, while government contracts across B.C. become exposed to escalating legal challenges tied to DRIPA and UNDRIP. This is the uncertainty Conservatives warned about from the very beginning. Higher hydro bills, higher costs, more legal chaos, less certainty for investment in British Columbia. And the NDP still refuse to admit the damage these laws are causing.
