@Steve_H_4 @SoxMach_pnoles Carlson currently has Bonemer problems that are gonna block him at the moment, let alone adding a Roch or Emerson. His bat is trash. Just fielding ain't gonna get it done with the infield talent they're gonna have in like 2 years from now.

@tlines2 @jsanchez1878 @SoxMach_pnoles I don’t disagree. But long term, he’s moving off short for someone, or for his bad back. It’s awesome that he looks great right now, but I don’t believe it’s sustainable with his injury history. I hope I’m wrong

@Steve_H_4 @jsanchez1878 @SoxMach_pnoles Walks in A ball mean next to nothing. Guys can’t throw strikes there. I’ll take the CURRENT 4 WAR SS playing great D at the big league level over a guy who MIGHT be here 3 years from now if he learns to hit

@jsanchez1878 @SoxMach_pnoles I didn’t say that either, but if someone comes along and is better defensively and offensively, he’s moving. Whoever that is. He doesn’t walk enough to hit .230 and not care

@Steve_H_4 @SoxMach_pnoles Carlson may never make the big leagues. Colson is the SS until a better candidate makes the bigs, but even ARod eventually moved positions.

@SoxMach_pnoles History of back issues, he’s destined to be a gold glove 1B in a couple years. Why not have great defenders at every infield position?

@jasonkredline Am I right that we only have 1 player? I think 3 guys hadn’t entered yet, but I don’t anticipate them staying

@Steve_H_4 There should be announcements soon. Actual announcements of signings has been super sparse though, not just for us, but for everyone.

DJ to the portal, I imagine the Will Wade returning to LSU smoke is real, new coach that will have a lot of roster turnover, Love DJ, great rebel. Will be interested to see where he ends up after a junior year snakebit by injuries. Will he be a senior?

Grading Josh Pastners First season: C- It's remarkable how much this season felt exactly like (maybe even a little worse) every single Kevin Kruger season If we could go back in time, I prolly woulda just given Kruger a 5th year. I gave Dan Mullen a grade after his first season at the helm as our Football coach (it was a B- or B+, can't remember), so I think it's fitting that I do the same for Coach Pastner. It's not a failing grade, of course, and there are many reasons why the Rebels might have run into some issues. Certainly, injuries were a MASSIVE problem, but by conference play, this team was who they were gonna be, and injuries were no excuse for the three quad 4 losses we took in the non-conference. In this era of College Basketball, you know basically immediately if a Coach is the right guy for the program. In year 1, year 2 at the latest, it's pretty obvious. Teams have new rosters nearly every year, and the 3-4 year build of a program is a FARCE in the modern era. UNLV's other two rumored leaders to be our HC last offseason, Bryan Hodgson and Eric Olen, take a look at how New Mexico and USF did this season. I dont think the program has the appetite to fire another Coach in the near future, so I imagine Josh gets a pretty long leash here, but the program is so stuck in the mud right now. Josh did some things well, certainly, his energy was fun, but 1. His lineup decisions were bizarre, and it wasn't until the last 3 weeks of the season that he finally figured out which dudes could and couldn't play, and even still, he made questionable lineup decisions. 2. His guys never figured out how to play together on defense. He tried so many different types of things on that end of the floor, but there was a lack of communication and discipline all year on that end of the floor. I thought Josh 3. an awful lack of discipline overall. This team fouled at a level I didn't even believe possible, and too many of the fouls were called 50+ feet from the basket. 4. Shot selection was an issue for most of the year, as was ball movement. The rebels couldn't get defenses to move, and had a tough time punishing defenses with decisive plays. 5. Inability to get the most out of Kimani, who is SUPREMLEY TALENTED and clearly wanted to be the guy we had hoped he could be, but never quite got there. Its not like Josh didnt try. I thought Josh was sort of erratic in his decision-making all year, and I think that bled down to the players. It seemed like he was just constantly throwing stuff at the wall and trying to see what stuck, instead of bringing an approach, a standard/style, and having his players play that style. I feel like he tries to mold his style to the players he has, and I just don't like that coaching approach. He should be molding the players to HIS STYLE. There were good things too. He empowered DGL and Tyrin to have really fun years. He got A LOT out of Howie, who I loved having on the team. He certainly reached out to the community in important ways, and his energy was really fun. But I just flatly disagree that Myles Che and Ladji Dembele woulda fixed the problems this team faced, would they have helped? Of course, they would have. I remain convinced that my initial impression of this hire was correct. HOWEVER, I remain hopeful that Josh can prove me wrong in year two (THE MAKE OR BREAK YEAR FOR ANY COACH) and help this program play relevant games again. And I really like Josh; turning this program around would be a lot of fun. I'll go live later and break down the season before we dive into portal life. Appreicate you all! #LETSRUN
