In your adult life, you’ve learnt that life is not fair. You’ve learnt that people with education and networks move up faster. That the world favours those who dress well, speak well and carry themselves with confidence. That society is cruel to those who are overweight and overly insecure. That people will have unsolicited opinions that are often harsh. That jealousy, petiness and hate exist. But so is love, kindness and genuine human connection.
Knowing all this. How are you preparing your children for this real world?
Are you watching their diet, do they lead an active lifestyle that will shield them from the cruelty this world dishes out to those who gain weight? Are you expanding your own networks so they will have doors to knock on and names to drop when it matters? Are you investing in their emotional literacy, are you investing in all that stands to build their self-confidence? Are you loving them correctly, investing in their education, exposing them to the bigger world and bigger experiences (instead of spending every werkend, school holiday or public holiday dragging them to kwimigidi, funerals, tombstone unveilings and weddings) or maybe through public speaking lessons so they can SPEAK with commanding voices.
Or are you just complaining about how unfair the world is, hoping that the world will change. It won’t change.
PS. By networks I don’t mean politicians. Asseblief tog. You give politicians way too much power and airtime.
@Sentletse I’ve always believed a child doesn’t need to go to an expensive school to be successful in their career. I know lots of people who made it in life who went to township schools
Most people like saying that taking your kids to ridiculously expensive schools like Hilton College, Michaelhouse and St Stithians would set up valuable networks and guarantee them success.
But then again, I don’t know of any CEO of a major JSE listed companies who went to these schools.

Do not let people use your savings and loyalty cards at the till. If you do, make sure you take the receipt. If they insist on the receipt, get that whole sale refunded and they can pay full price or get their own card.
