I’m not really a fan of redistricting mid-cycle in general, but assuming you think it was appropriate for Texas to do the same last year, it’s probably wise to compare the two. First, it required voter approval. Virginians passed a referendum to authorize the new map. This is notably more fair than the redistricting in Texas, where lawmakers redrew their map without an opportunity for voters to reject the changes. The Virginia referendum is also explicitly temporary, with the bipartisan redistricting commission resuming after the 2030 census. The Texas redistricting carries no such sunset.
