@Evgo961 @BillyGNippers I don’t say that lightly- it actually has some character and variety compared to other Fazio features and the property certainly does for Texas and especially Houston. With that being said, I’ll add that it was the first course I caddied at- for a few years. Great place.

@bschneider126 If Mr Travis (or any other course builder past) were to scope the raw grounds today would he build the same style/configuration, considering the modern day tools that would be at his disposal? The equipment, the popularity, compliance mandates, water management etc are all factor

@Weatherhack Sedge does not have different fairways than the other courses. The whole resort is fescue fairways and bent grass greens. There are a few tees out there that are over seeded with bluegrass to combat the size of them and the traffic they receive but its fescue fairways.

Round 2--Sedge Valley. Doak design. 5800 from the tips. This is the 1st Doak design that I enjoyed playing. Normally they just kick you in the teeth. This is very playable. Also unique is that they use a different fairway grass than the other courses. 2/

🧵#GolfChat Reviews from yesterday. Round 1--Sand Valley. Of course I liked it, as it was a Coore and Crenshaw design. Lots of width. Great variety of Par 3s, 4s, and 5s. Greens are nicely contoured. You can post a score, or get beat up. I actually scored better than I played. 1/

You have to grudgingly respect that Fazio isn't even pretending that his version of East Potomac will "incorporate themes of the original Walter J. Travis design," as the press release from the Trump administration claimed it would. He's just like, "Nope, Walter Travis was an idiot, I'm blowing it all up."

Congrats to Mike Trout! His new Tiger Woods designed golf course is open! Many are upset it’s very private, but zero chance this course could get built as a public track. It was way too expensive to build. It could never make sense. This place will be awesome.

Yay or nay on the greenside pool? The new pool added to 18 at Memorial Park to keep the tradition of the champ jumping in the pond. This is a one year temporary fix. Yes it should have been planned better, but it’s a great tradition and should be kept.

It's been a thing with short courses (Par 3) for a while now...more than 9 but less than 18 holes. Some of the original links courses in Scotland weren't 18 holes to begin with, but eventually got expanded to 18 holes. The idea of the new course at Sand Valley is to add another "afternoon course" to the set-up there. magazine.dreamgolf.com/SandValley2025/

I have reached the age where 9 holes after a full work day is perfect. Trying to cram in 18 holes between 5 pm and 8 pm is too much stress. A leisurely 9 hole walk with focus on each shot is so much better at this point. Who's with me on 9 hole rounds?

@TimGavrich I had one I couldn’t miss with— even with through driver yips with it around 2017– could still Henrik Stenson laser the 3W. Walked in the caddy shack one day- picked up the headcover that was still on it and it the head was broken off…. Never been able to hit one the same since.

One minor regret about my golf life to this point is that I have never managed to find a 3 wood I truly loved. 5 woods, however…to this day I remember a particular shot I hit with my trusty Callaway Steelhead in a junior tournament. And I loved my PING G10 5 wood as well.

If you hit your 3 wood well don't replace it. I am on year 10 with mine. There is something about finding a great 3 wood that is hard to replace once you do. I am still hitting the Titleist 915, I have tested some other newer ones, nothing compares to how well I hit mine.

I understand it’s very difficult to properly assess average pitch velocity prior to the pitch-tracking era. HOWEVER, we have seen velo climb by 3 ticks since 2008. Do some of these retired players think velocities cratered and then climbed again just as we could start tracking?
