In Canada: GOVTs won’t permit Police to pat-down gang members who are known to carry illegal guns But, same GOVTs want Police to go door to door to confiscate legal & safely stored guns — Canada is the land of STUPID!

@scottmhayward @elie_mcn Honestly having a dedicated passenger line at conventional speeds would do a lot I think. A lot of the delays and issues with Via comes from passenger trains having secondary priority on what are freight lines. This also limits freight capacity.

@elie_mcn Okay, at least this is better than going straight to a hard "no" from the CPC. Perhaps instead of a high speed rail line (which needs less curves than the current CN line), we can compromise and have a separate, dedicated track(s) for more VIA trains?

There is a railway that is effectively a straight line from Toronto to Montreal. Shown in BLUE. Building high speed rail along it would make sense. Instead, the Liberals propose a boondoggle of a line, shown in RED, that goes through all these communities they need to win.

@Smileyyeg @PoliticsCanad You don’t think moving passenger traffic off cargo rail lines thereby increasing cargo capacity would be productive?

@PoliticsCanad I am saying investing in productive assets makes a return. As in money. That is maybe more important than buying votes in the GTA?

So we have to find a private proponent for a productive asset like a pipeline, but a commuter train in the East with little to no economic benefit gets $100B dollars of Canadian's money straight up? We see you Canada. We see you.

@NathanMCFrancis @gator_gum I’m never going to put any of the oil that flows through a new pipeline in my car. But my opposing a pipeline for that reason would be silly.

@gator_gum Why should I be forced to support a high speed rail I will never use? I don't even want this governent in power let alone funding a high speed rail for the lobbyists to use to lobby for more shit I will never use...

The number of people that have let lobbyists convince them that the solution to every problem in Canada is building a pipeline is absolutely unbelievable. They truly think it's some magic entity that would solve a bunch of problems. Additionally, are they calling for a nationalized program? Gov't control? Commies!

The Canadian Pacific Railway singlehandedly turned some of the most remote regions on earth into some of the richest. Trillions in upside. If you think this is in any way comparable to a choo-choo that's a bit faster than the VIA Rail may I suggest you have no grasp of how nations are built.

@TristinHopper This targets the same population as the electric car initiative. Rural populations can't adopt electric vehicles in the short term. Not the same way urban and suburban populations can. Are they meant to take the trains or the rail? Did they even consider that?

@TristinHopper I’ve no strong opinion on high speed but there probably are significant economic upsides to at least separating cargo and passenger rail along that corridor. If making the passenger rail line faster while we do that isn’t drastically more expensive it seems logical to do so.

Ottawa wants to spend $90 Billion on high-speed rail between Toronto and Quebec City. That's $4000 out of the pocket of every Canadian taxpayer to fund something that 99% will never use. As usual, Western Canadians will be paying to subsidize Ontario and Quebec. Insanity.

Total NATO defense spending (2025): United States: $980,000,000,000 Europe + Canada: $512,337,000,000 That’s not an alliance. That’s a subsidy. President Trump is right. NATO allies can't keep treating American taxpayers like their personal ATM!

Conservatives don't win seats in the downtown core of Toronto and Quebec City, and those are the only parts of Canada that benefit from it. I'm not sure why people think this train is so popular Canada wide. It is not. There are no Conservative voters standing to benefit from it
Andrea Micieli@AndreaMicieli

Wrong move. Way to lose urban, suburban, and younger votes because there’s NIMBY complainers. Conservatives should be able to think big while protecting the public purse. Canadians want to see national projects. Carney would be right to hit the Conservatives on this. And he will, effectively.

This may be a hot take. BUT! I’m not convinced it should take 3 years to propose to someone. Even 2. If you’ve been dating someone exclusively for 1 year & you STILL don’t know if you’d spend the rest of your life with them…. Then you’ll probably end up divorced in the long run.

Last night I caught up with an old friend who still lives in Canada. She's worried. Like, planning for grid collapse worried. She makes good money, but still can barely afford the basics. She feels like an alien in her own hometown. Not sure how much longer this can go on.

@cia_surveilance @physicsgeek I didn’t watch it in class but sure saw it on TV later on as it was on every news broadcasts. I was 6. People didn’t shelter kids as much back then so almost everyone would have seen it because our parents were watching news reports about it and we only had one TV

@physicsgeek Some did. But facts suggest most did not. -The TV to classroom ratio was not high. -Cable or satellite connectivity was not common. Into all classrooms even less common. -The event was not broadcast over the air in most markets. It was game show hour. - etc

I know it's been 40 years and some of you were still sperm in your father, but all y'all screeching NO KIDS WATCHED THE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION are not only stupid, you're pig ignorant. 1) A teacher was on board as an astronaut 2) Lot of teachers wheeled TVs into their classrooms so that kids could watch a teacher fly into space. 3) Those kids saw the Challenger explode One of the worst videos I saw was of Christa McAuliffe's (the teacher in question) classroom -with a sub teacher- watching the video as the Challenger exploded.

Hey Retard, US Tariffs have NOTHING to do with our govts taxes on fuel. Holy shit, neither does the war in Iran. At least 30 cents of the price of gas is tax charged by our own govts. How is this such a difficult concept to grasp.
Chris lebeau@Chrislebeau3

@govt_corrupt @Scottslifeeh Interesting……I guess the tarriffs and the Iran war have nothing to do with it….just Carney…..seriously? Pay attention to what is happening in the world…..
