@tetrarosie @TheAleksee Actually that's my 2nd reaction, my 1st reaction was to question why St. Charles isn't in the south when St. Louis is.
English

@tetrarosie @TheAleksee My reaction is to question why only half of Kansas City, Missouri is in the south.
English

@lefttwick @LucyKwiatek The converse though is I'm not sure hostage taking with your vote is an effective method of pushing the party in the right direction. "If you don't do what I want, then I'll make things worse for everyone!" is a poor way of bringing people over to your view.
English

the Hillary mythos really cooked the democratic party more than anything, they just fundamentally think it's beneath them to try to win votes of people who don't already slavishly support them
Charlotte Clymer 🇺🇦@cmclymer
I am not a fan of Gavin Newsom. I would vote for him in a heartbeat if he were the nominee. Because I'm not an idiot.
English

@RealtyPnw California isn't unique in the US for this but most parts of the US with similar politics are significantly better in their city layouts. I think if you were used to the way big cities in Japan are laid out then it would be a rough transition.
English

@RealtyPnw Even as someone mostly aligned with California politically I wouldn't want to live there; it's a matter of how their cities are structured, little public transit, limited density, endless sprawl so that you need to drive through heavy traffic to get anywhere.

このスレもみんなとても情熱的にカリフォルニアを嫌っていて笑える
チャッピー@junhagemay
なんかよくわからないけど、アメリカのTwitter民がカリフォルニアを極端に嫌ってるのだけは分かった。

@hikarin22 They'd need to be dedicated enough to learn each others' languages, you can't rely on machine translators for a long-term relationship. Seems like a pretty big barrier!
English

@number_one7412 The big states tend to have regional identities built around the state, while smaller ones often have a regional identity built around a group of states, like New England or the deep south.
English

@number_one7412 The state they were raised in would be secondary to being American. However, often Americans traveling abroad introduce themselves as being from their state rather than as being from America. Also how the regional identity works varies from place to place.
English

@190_tr Can confirm that saying makes zero sense in the machine translation.
English

@kkg_x1 Yes, America has many regional cuisines that are popular in specific parts of the country but not others. It's kinda inevitable when individual states are larger than many countries.
English

@149195 America is a huge country, so it isn't a surprise when something ubiquitous in one part of it is completely unknown thousands of miles away in another part of it.
English

@TaylorLaRue98 Again, provide a source for your claim that early requirements for immigration required being Christian.
English

@Stuart98_ They literally founded the country expressly for their own descendants-- all of which are Christian. Not only that but the early requirements to immigrate into the country was similar cultures and good morals, which was explicitly interpreted as Christian. So-- just stop.
English

@TaylorLaRue98 @Tomoejp1236 "We were founded by Christians" is largely correct; "we were founded for Christians" is blatantly incorrect. The first amendment and the Treaty of Tripoli both make that clear.
Source on the immigration claim? I can't find anything of the sort.
English

@Stuart98_ @Tomoejp1236 Enlightenment philosophy was definitely present- but denying the Christian roots of Americans will only continue making this fight worse. We are founded by, and FOR, Christians. Even our immigration standards required Christianity for over a hundred years. So, you're wrong.
English

@May_Roma Were I in Japan I think I would still be on the left, but I think Japan's center-right has more in common with our center-left than you do with our right (though there are definitely specific issues where this isn't the case).
English

@nikutaberuru This is definitely the case everywhere in the world, people using anonymity as a shield to talk shit.
English

@bikeandriding Yes, this is correct. Democrats in America acknowledge that the land we live on was stolen, though few are inclined to do anything about it. The Republican refrain, to the extent they acknowledge it at all, is that the land wasn't conquered rather than stolen(as if that's better)
