@Yorkshire_Steve @MrMattock @mathsjem @Miss_Mathsgeek @MEIMaths Absolutely, an essay based subject where you can help students think about how to structure evidence and opinions. I just think for Maths we'd be taking out the thinking and if they're not thinking there's no learning.

@StubbsMaths @MrMattock @mathsjem @Miss_Mathsgeek @MEIMaths I think there is a real difference between subjects. I can more clearly imagine a benefit in those subjects which have fewer, but longer, questions where pupils need to 'plan out' their answers and manage time effectively.

Can anyone point me in the direction of any research for or against the impact of walking/talking mocks in Maths? @mathsjem @MrMattock @Miss_Mathsgeek @MEIMaths

@mathsjem These are my thoughts too, and also some questions can be tackled by differing methods who am I to dictate how a student thinks. Thank you all 🙂

@StubbsMaths I don’t know of any research but I’ve always thought it doesn’t really make sense for maths. For high attaining students it must be a frustratingly slow pace. There’s too much variation in what students need to make it useful for all.

@GillianKeegan @Conservatives I keep telling people over and over again.. Education standards in #York have rocketed - with schools rated good our outstanding up by a third since the #Conservatives came along in 2010.

In 2010 under Labour, only 63% of schools in York Central were rated good or outstanding. Now, that number is 97%. That's what the @Conservatives deliver. #BBCQT

@GillianKeegan @Conservatives As someone living in York I think you'll find that most of the 37% school not outstanding or good in 2010 no longer exist, that's what you delivered

@TLMaths @Sheena2907 @DrBennison @missradders @BecomingAJackel Most of it is fine, but students find the Yr 13 circular motion difficult. Harmonic motion is included in the pure so has to be done whatever combination of applied you choose - not taught that bit though!

@TLMaths @Sheena2907 @DrBennison @missradders @BecomingAJackel It's definitely not what we'd prefer to do but hands are tied by finances. Think this is our 4th year through teaching in parallel and although there are some minor issues it's getting easier. Happy to share our schedule for both of you want to dm

@TLMaths @Sheena2907 @DrBennison @missradders @BecomingAJackel We do AQA FM in parallel with normal, the class are in with other students for just Maths. We do discrete and mechanics with the discrete first to give some breathing space for the normal maths to complete mech before we start further mech.

And yes I’m a little grumpy that I don’t meet the criteria for a job because I still think, despite lacking these things, I would be ace at it. Their loss.

Having a first/ 2:1 or an A level in Further Maths should never be essential on a job description. They are the very symbols of advantage that we, as educators, are meant to be battling. These things have no correlation to your effectiveness as an educator.

@natalieaa Check if there's a baby carrier library. I wore Thomas until he was about 18 months and it was definitely worth it. It settled him even if he didn't sleep

@StubbsMaths Yeah, someone else has suggested one. He is quite heavy though, don’t know if my back would take it! He also very rarely falls asleep on me. Do you think it would still work?
